Anyone know why some shimano brakes have banjos & some dont?

Any reason? My wifes slx has banjo & mine has direct. Is it difficult to put a banjo on the existing brakeline.

Price. Cheaper to do a direct fit than a banjo fitting. Might just be pennies but over hundreds of thousands of units it adds up.
