Anyone know the algorithm for remaining distance?

So, wife and I both went out today - did 30 miles. Both batteries fully charged. At the end, hers said there were 24 miles remaining, mine said 18. When I looked at the percentage battery left, hers was 45% and mine was 44%. The voltages were the same to within a tenth of a volt.

So, does anyone know how these things work? How does it calculate remaining distance? On the ride, I used more of level 1 (economy) than her, but was pedalling harder, until the end (which was a 2 mile hill) when I think I used more assistance than her.

I'm just curious to know.

Oh, the bikes are Decathlon Rockrider EST 520 with Brose motors.

If the brand does not disclose the basis for range predictions there is no way to find out. I don't think any of them are anything more than a rough guide because there are far too many variables that could impact on range. It is also often the case that delivery of power from a battery is not linear.

The range will change dependant on wich mode you are currently in - just in case you weren't aware.

Ah there's a thought. I bet I was in '2' when I looked and my wife probably in '1'.

Thanks

Regardless all range predictions are little more than a wet finger in the air!!
