these bolts worked their way loose on my 9.8xt about 5 months after I got it, Ive had it just over a year done about 700 miles and it looks lke they have done the same thing again! the give away is when the motor moves enough for the chainring to skim into the chain stay! cuts quite a nice groove... will be getting back to trek once the holidays are over to see what they do next!

Some Rails also had a separate issue where the chainring cut into the chainstay, i don't think they ever worked out what caused it.

Yes you do, and then they're a security type head that you have to get the tool to fit.
But you've got to be careful, they are meant to be a fix and forget, they can easily be snapped and then it's a new motor job.

My curiosity and OCD nature had me all ready to dive into this since it's always good to know how shit ticks. Glad you mentioned the details before I realized what was needed. Drives me crazy when manufactures do stuff to make maintenance difficult or proprietary. I've dealt with Bosch in another industry which I worked, they are an extremely diversified company.

Ordered a 10 piece set 7-40. I've ran into these before but can't recall what it was? They're becoming more common. Bosch has a thing about keeping stuff proprietary but as with anything over time we'll find a way.
