Any recommendations for prescription mtb glasses ??

I'm a tightarse and just ride with whatever glasses I wear as a daily. Specsavers at $200 for two pairs and I'm sorted. Don't like riding in tinted lens as I struggle with contrast in the shade.

I recently bought a pair of Alpina Twist 5 HR VR+ which are apparently the most sold sports glasses. They are the first photo-chromatic glasses I’ve found which work for cycling as they go from one to three which is not so dark that one can’t see anything when One goes into the woods. They grip well and are treated against misting up which is use when wearing a mask. Finally the arms adjust so one can fit them close or far from one’s face. I believe one can get prescription lenses for them and I think they are quite a lot cheaper than Oakleys.

Hey, I think I can offer some good info here. I have been riding w prescription glasses for a few years now and I buy all my riding glasses from zennioptical.com. I use these glasses and they run me about $30 per pair with amber tints, I buy several to I have them wherever I go

You can get mirror lenses, polarized etc but I stick to the basics and get plastic lenses. Never had an issue and I ride as rowdy as it gets. You can also get their "fashion tints" which are killer for low light. I just ordered 3 sets for $95 total... Highly recommend

I wear a set of Rudy Project Rydon slims with the RX optical docking system. I love how they fit as both the nose piece and temples are flexible allowing for customizable adjustments.

My prescription is pretty high, I have Bolle Bolt S, one yellow tint for most conditions and a darker one for full sun. They fit really well and have survived a fair few offs so pretty happy with them.

Rudy and Oakley are the best I have used. I don't mess with the others anymore. I think Oakley has the edge in lens colors but both are awesome. I only use their prescription lenses.

the Oakleys suited my thin ish face the best (so wifey said)

cost $840 AUD with for mutlifocal and all the bells and whistles (transition , anti fog etc)

Had a few rides and feel so much better than my regular all use glasses (that continually need me pushing back up my nose). Should have done this so much earlier. Still to do a night rise but impressed so far.

In Australia there is a chainstore Specsavers that do sunnies and regular glasses as a package. They have many sports styles orders of magnitude less than oakley.

Hi,

Having worn contact lenses from 18 yo to about 50 yo my eyes started to reject them. Having also astigmatism corrective surgery not on the cards.

Are there others in my position whom rode with special glasses?? A few recent youtube vids have worried me about riding in my day to day glass specs.

Also im in Australia... so any Aussie specific recommendations would be awesome on Oakley prescription sunglasses.

I just got progressive lenses, but still have great vision compared to my wife. These are like a +1.0 and maybe a -.75 distance.

I'm not a huge fan of wearing glasses because I feel like the glass puts a haze on everything I see, I lose peripheral vision, and have tunnel vision as a result of that.

I'm trying to get used to them, but since my vision is on the line, I don't really need them. Late in the afternoon after staring at my monitor, I got them so I could reduce eye fatigue.

How do people deal with wearing glasses all the time?

Oakley do the Radar with prescription lenses. +2.5 doesn't seem that bad mine are +1.25.

I have two pairs of Oakley Flak's with Prizim Trail Torch and Prizim Road in the other. Both have prescription lenses in them.

I'm very lucky one of my best mates works for Oakley so only ended up paying about $120 USD each

How do people deal with wearing glasses all the time?

I fucking hate it. Constantly cleaning the bloody things. Every time I'm under a light source (e.g. sun), I can see where I've missed something or it's simply smeary. Absolute dust and fat magnets.
But my wife thinks I look better with glasses on.

Highly recommend laser eye surgery if that is an option. I had it in my 20’s and eyes were perfect for 20+ years. Doctor told me at the time I would eventually need glasses. I hit my 50’s and now I’m stuck with them. Pain in the ass, but can’t see for shit without them.

How do people deal with wearing glasses all the time?

I have been wearing specs for over 40 years and they do not bother me at all. I need them for distance. I have varifocals so that I can read whilst also watching TV. Varifocals instead of bi-focals means that what I see is a natural view without blurring or edges.

I don't need them all the time, but I always wear them when I'm out of the house so that I can recognise people I see across the street.

I pay for higher refractive index lenses so that the active area of the lens is bigger. This means that I can look around the lens with my eyes rather than having to turn my head to see clearly what I'm looking at. I go for lightweight spectacles and the higher refractive index helps that because the lens thickness is less. I go for frameless lenses, so they are even lighter. The frames (arms and bridge only) on my current and spare pair are titanium, so not only are they light but very strong. One of those pairs were in my shorts pocket when I lifted my leg up to fasten my laces. The frames were bent in half. I just straightened them out!

If you need to wear specs all the time, then spend some money on them, they are part of who you are and one of the first things people see when they meet you.

I needed new lenses for existing frames, and since my insurance allowed me to use my unused frame allowance for sunglasses, I bought some Rudy Project Cutlines with 9%-74% LTV photochromic lenses that take an Rx insert. My regular glasses are photochromic as well.

A few months later, new job, new insurance, I got a second set of Rudy’s (Tralyx+) with a 13% LTV lens and a progressive Rx insert that’s fits the Cutline as well.

if your standard prescription glasses are small, you can buy 'optical covers' which, as the name suggests, simply fit over your glasses. Sounds like a bit of a kludge but it works really well for me - and the covers are relatively cheap, about the same price as standard sunnies
