Adhesive rubber frame protection

I‘m not happy with my homemade pivot protector (a cut down muckynutz front mudguard), as it was trapping small stones & pieces of grit between it and the frame, so it was only a matter of time before those small stones ground their way through the PPF.

I’ve noticed that Whyte use a thin adhesive rubber frame protection, so does anyone know what it is and where I can get some of it?

I'd use a bit of old inner tube glued on.
When I took my bike to the ALPs for the first time, I zip-tied a length of old tyre onto the down tube. Cut the beads off first with a pair of scissors and it conforms to the curves just fine. Worked an absolute treat!

Yeah that could be an option. It’d be handy to know what Whyte use though, as that would be easier and less messy! ?

That’s the sort of stuff, just need it in sheets rather than on an inch wide roll.

I use 3M mastic as my motor/downtube protection. Just be aware that both sides are somewhat adhesive. After a ride or two the exposed side loses its stickiness from dirt, but it works well, is easily shapeable/cuttable, and is relatively inexpensive.

@Pan and @RickBullotta When it comes time to replace, how easily does the rubber protection come off? Is the adhesive easily removed from the paintwork? (I have Gorilla tape nightmares). Note to @EebStrider.

Relatively easy - very little adhesive residue, and easily removed with a plastic scraper.

Yeah, I can see the potential issue with gorilla tape! I may just put a thicker matte film in the really vulnerable areas, as I’m struggling to find what I’m looking for. All the stuff on eBay seems to be like a self adhesive rubber foam sponge.

I put two or more layers of the ordinary helicopter tape in vulnerable areas.

That's what I’ll end up doing, tbh. I’ve got some small sheets of Eazigrip left over from the last install on my motorbikes, so will cut that down for the back of the motor.
