If I ever get my bike back I'd like to add a cadence sensor. My bike has no BT connectivity so it'll have to be third party add-ons, what hot and what's not?
I'll also need a display of some sort. Given my propensity for unscheduled dismounts I don't really want to mount my phone on the bars or switch to a Nyon display (too many £££ at risk) so what can use for that as well?

Not on the Intuvia display, no. I think the Nyon display has it.

I think some simple wireless bike computers support cadence , I have a giant branded one on my roadbike that uses ant plus and does cadence with a tiny magnet attatched to the crank arm , they are under £50 . Iam surprised how often I have the cadence on on the ebike I feel there’s a lot to learn to get cadence right to get the best out of the motor and probably battery too .

This is exactly why I want one. It should also help me to avoid "leaning" on the modes as I get tired.

or any S/H garmin with ANT+ and the cadence sensor. If you don't need Maps the tiny Garmin edge 25 would suffice and take up minimal bar space.
The (new style) cadence sensor is a rubber band crank mounted wireless accelerometer so can be switched from bike to bike in seconds.
I have an old 800 with cadence and speed sensors on my roadbike but haven't felt the need to bother fitting it to an mtb. I might try it on the Emtb at some point tho to geek out if the novelty of climbing FFWD function ever wears out.
I'm the oposite of most folk on here in that I don't actually care about saving battery in the slightest.

With the recently published power and torque curves, one can optimize their cadence when monitoring. Most drop off around 90. Shimano is over 400 watts between 58 and 108.

Looked up the nylon display, would not want that on my bars either.
