Has anyone tried installing a 170mm dropper post on a Gen3 medium carbon frame (stock is 150mm)? If so, does the post bottom out in the bend of the seat tube (I think it would)? It would be a deal breaker (and potentially a frame breaker) if it does.

The max insertion depth for the Medium frame is 230mm.

I have a OneUp post with 180mm drop installed in my Medium carbon Gen 4 (same frame as the Gen 3). The height for the center of the saddle rails from the BB spindle center is set at 680mm without issue.

I have a 22 Rail 7. Do your know the max insertion depth for a large?

Thanks for the info. I am right on the cusp of sizing according to Trek being 175cm tall. I ended up sticking with a large since I need a 74.5cm saddle height. I wanted the shorter wheelbase but the medium is just too small.

As an owner of a 2022 9.8XT I would take Trek's sizing by height with a grain of salt. Reach on the large is 487-491mm which is a hell of a lot for someone of your height.

I'm 178cm and very happy on a medium Rail, 460mm reach is perfect

I’m also 175cm but went with Medium for the Rail. Same with the Fuel EXe, and also the Slash I bought last year. It’s lame that on each they spec a 150mm dropper when I can easily fit a 170/180.
