2022 pivot shuttle am pro and cons ? Help

Hi.

Have an opportunity to buy an exdemo pivot shuttle am. Looking at size large . ( I’m 181 cm,).

Just interested in pros and cons of the bike.? Couple areas of concern are lack of bottle mounts, only 140mm rear, ep8 engine.

Pros for me are the higher stack with spacers. Light and poppy based on a very quick carpark ride ( when compared with say a Rocky Mountain powerplay ).

Riding a trek slash 2022 currently.

Any thoughts from owners would be super appreciated. Limited comments on the bike and no way I can afford a 2023/2024 model given New Zealand pricing . Thanks

Update: tried a shimano motor today for the first time. Was a norco sight vlt. Bike was super heavy, hard to move and the motor provided very limited support on the flat into a head wind in boost. I was shocked as was wife. Has made me really think about the shuttle given its motor is the same.

My choice for a SL would involve the type of motor. I’m not familiar with the history of light weight motors but I would lean towards a SL bike with a reliable motor. If it fits your style and budget, or there is still some warranty on a demo from a reputable LBS…why not?

Full disclosure; I just purchased the Trek Fuel EXE. Proximity to a bike shop and the motor was my main concern. My budget was also a factor so I parted with the HT which softened the shock a bit ($$$).

Even though the SL will have less power than Rail, it will be perfect for the flats and still have the ability for almost anything I throw at it.

Anyways, New bike day for me today 👍🏻. I think my wife is more excited than I am. 🤷‍♂️

Hi. The shuttle am is a full fat not sl. I had looked at sl bikes. Exe being one of them but honestly I found the motor gave me no assistance on climbs. I’m not if the bike was a dud but put me off sl motors in general

I love the motor, plenty for what I need and fun as hell coming down or going up. I’ve gotten used to the large but I’m in between that and the medium so I would have had to adjust either way.

If I could afford the latest model then I’d be happier as it’s got more rear travel to. Can I ask how tall you are?

They are on clearance for a reason... Pivot moved away from Shimano. They are ugly as hell compared to the newer model...

Try another brand if you can't afford a new shuttle AM

Lol less worried about the ugly ( actually i don't mind the look to be honest, but the new model is nicer ). But the motor is the concern in general. I see you are in chch, any brands you recommend that we get locally here? looking at rocky, pivot, specialized. but would have liked to see Orbea Wild aswell. Seems to be really limited stock floating around in stores currently which makes trying a size/geo a bit tougher.. Cheers

Buy from a decent LBS, you'll always need support regardless of brand. I had a list in order of importance that made the decision for me.

1. Bosch - Full power motor
2. SLX or XT brakes
3. Carbon
4. 29er

Make a list, then fit something within your budget. Spec, Trek & Giant seem to have the most availability in NZ

Excuse me for butting in but you mentioned Rocky Mountain. I have a 2022 Rocky Mountain Powerplay Altitude A30 coil and like it a lot. More since I changed the spring to a progress one and changed the fork to a 180mm Manitou mezzer expert.

If you demo ride a Rocky Mountain Powerplay make sure the shop sets up a custom profile with +2 Boost. It makes all the difference in the world in power delivery. Good luck with what ever you get!

Excuse me for butting in but you mentioned Rocky Mountain. I have a 2022 Rocky Mountain Powerplay Altitude A30 coil and like it a lot. More since I changed the spring to a progress one and changed the fork to a 180mm Manitou mezzer expert.

If you demo ride a Rocky Mountain Powerplay make sure the shop sets up a custom profile with +2 Boost. It makes all the difference in the world in power delivery. Good luck with what ever you get!
Hey great feedback, i did ride an a30, ( 2022 ) with coil etc, however I'm a bigger guy ( 105 - 110 KG ) so need to change the coil and also i wasn't a huge fan of the front fork. I was eyeing up the A50.. Ideally id like the c70 ( never gonna afford that ) so that i could have a mullet set up with the MX adaptor, because i was wondering how heavy and large the rocky was and if it felt a bit like a battle ship a mullet might help, id also want to change the cranks from the 170 which are just as bit long IM. Any thoughts on the rocky would be super appreciated as right now its sitting high on the list of what i was going for. They also seem to have a slightly shorter reach in a large than most and maybe a higher stack ( i need something that doesn't stretch my back out too far ) so were a good option ( part of the reason i liked the shuttle was due to the long steerer and ability to get the stem up high .. ).

Nice. If you decided to go with the Rocky Mountain and you went with the A30 coil you would want to replace a few things. A coil shock is a good thing for us heavier riders. I'm about 200lb all kitted up and I went with a progressive 450-550lb Cane Creek spring. It gives me a plush ride and amazing traction. I didn't like the Heavy RockShox Domain forks so I went with a lighter manitou mezzer expert with 180mm travle. Love the suspension now. Also if you get a large you may want to get Raceface 165mm cranks. It will help a little bit with pedal strikes. You could have your cranks shortened to 160mm or 155mm. There is a post in the Rocky Mountain thread all about it. The Dyname 4.0 motor is amazing. Set up right it works great for us heavier riders. Like I said in the other post a custom profile is a must to get the most out of the motor. Here is a video that my help you with your decision. I chimed in on his first video telling him about the Boost settings.

Sure.
I came off a 2019 Focus Jam2 pro plus trail bike. 140mm travel. It was lighter wight, 27.5 plus size tires and a Shimano E8000 motor. It was definitely more nimble on the single track trails and since I'm not a big jumper 140mm travel gave me a nice ride. The Altitude is a Enduro bike made to smash the downhills. I don't smash anything lol so I had to make it plush as I could without spending a lot of money. I kinda feel the Instinct may have been a better choice since it is more a trail bike. I didn't get to demo either so I went with what I thought had the specs I wanted. Don't get me wrong, I like my Altitude. It's playful and stable as can be going down hill. Just not as poppy as a trail bike. I set it with the short chain stay and position 4 on the shock. I don't see me getting another bike for awhile.. I also got a great deal on it. Right around $4300 out the door I believe.
