Levo Gen 2 2021 Levo Motor Failures?

In the market for a 2021 Levo Comp and I am trying to figure out if Specialized actually fixed the motor issues for the 2021 model.

I continue to read through this forum on motor failures, but it's hard to decipher if the new failures are on the original motor or if they are on the newest replacement versions as well?

It appears the 2021 Levo only has a 2 year warranty on the motor, unlike the the 2019-20 that have the extended 4 year warranty. This would indicate Specialized is confident in the new motor version coming on the 2021 and being used as a replacement?

Anybody hear of 2021 Levo motor failures or had a failure on one that was replaced in the last 6 months?

I had a replacement motor manufactured on June 22nd, 2020 (I presume that it is the same one as in 2021 models) and it failed recently. I'm waiting for a 3rd motor now. I ride mainly in Turbo and on climbs.

I’ve just ordered a 2021 Comp from the Specialized concept store and was told that it came with a 4 year motor warranty. I specifically asked the question and was told this was the case. I’m going to need this in writing before handing over my cash.

There seems to be a lot of confusion on if it’s a 2 year or 4 year warranty for 2021 motors. everything I see says 4 years for 2019/20 only.

I emailed specialized yesterday to get something from them in writing.

Let me know if the LBS will put that in writing for you.

Just got the following response from specialized....

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out! Because the issue on the 2019-2020 models was fixed for 2021, the 2021 models have the standard 2 year warranty. I hope this helps!

Yes, I’ve just checked with the shop manager and I was given duff info - the 2021 models have the standard 2 year warranty. He said because all the motor issues have been resolved with the 2021 motors......?

If I my 2020 motor blows and I’m given a 2021 replacement I still get the extend warranty ! Good for me but not for someone who’s paid more for near enough the same bike and only gets a 2year warranty !
kenevo’s are the same !

Yes! Extended warranty for the motor is given based on a bike model year, not on the motor itself ...

Hears where it gets slightly more complicated, there’s a new 2021 motor, so an updated 2021 motor, the new 2021 motor has more carbon in the steel, so it’s darker, hard to see unless you remove the cranks, don’t know a lot more ‘numbers etc’ also was told there using different grease, not sure on the belts though. Iv done a mk1 21 motor so on the latest one, only had it few weeks so too early to say it’s reliable, I’m sure someone on hear knows more about this motor, it’s obviously what’s going in the new levo coming out soon

What is the (build) date of your new motor? Where did the info come from about the steel grade?

Sorry not a clue re dates or numbers, steel was pointed out to me when it was being fitted, along with the grease now being used

You can see the motor date from the middle part of the serial number in Mission Control. Mine is 100200831 which translates as 31 August 2020 (but it was only fitted in the last week).

7 aug, Which makes mine a few days older than yours... Clearly been in circulation a while then, makes me wonder if the last one that blew was also the latest spec ?!

My 2021 Levo comp just failed at 1150 miles. Bike is 11 months old. Im dissapointed to say the least. My giant had 3200 miles on it when i sold it. I like the Levo alot better, but not happy on the motor issues!!!

Just out of curiosity, what’s the motor serial number on the motors that are failing 👍

I have a 2019 Levo bought in July 2019, motor (100190426) made some unusual noises so it was replaced in March 2021, new motor serial number 100200831. Got my fingers crossed on this one, so far so good. Jinxed it now 😆

I have a 2020 Turbo Levo and got my 5th engine last week. I got my 3 engine in February and my 4th engine a few weeks ago. This gave a fault immediately after installation and was eventually replaced by the Specialized importer itself because my dealer, even after telephone consultation with the importer, could not resolve a fault. The last 2 engines were from the last 200 series. So if you ask me if Specialized has solved the problems.... I can also say that I have had a different problem each time. It's that the service is so good and the bike rides so great, but otherwise....

I usually ride in Trail on sloping girth trail. Kilometerstand about 6000km

The rumor is not true. The warranty period is calculated from the date of purchase of the bike (or registration).
This also depends on your country law, in my country warranty gets restarted everytime essential component of the product is replaced, and motor is obviously essential component of the bike ...

As my kenevo is again back at the LBS to get a new V-belt, I'm having time to dropping this line.
- 6th Motor/Belt (started to count up on the motor in Strava)
- Average, 2000KM on a Motor!
- All Motor changes were done on warranty!
- having still the additional 1,1/2 year to go on additional 2y warranty for motor errors. (This was specially mentioned from chef Spez Switzerland to the LBS)
- LBS still greets, but is not that happy when I step in to the shop.
- will start to look at the new bike in a year.
- will it have a Brose Motor -- NO
