Hey folks, seen a few threads on builds using a 34.9 / 170mm AXS upgrade ( straight swap out for 34.9 Xmanic) but wondered if there were any issues?? S-Works is spec’d with 30.9 / 170 and a shim for a reason I guess?

cheers.

+1 upgraded mine with a 34.9 , and apart from a little lateral movement which infuriates me , but Im told is "standard/normal" , I love it.

I asked last year on a Expo an Specialized Expert, why the have the 30.9 AXS Seatpost installed. It's all about weight.

here the different weights for the RockShox Reverb AXS 150 mm:
  • black/30,9 mm / 440 mm / SB 0: 623 g (Sattelstütze)
  • black/34,9 mm / 440 mm / SB 0: 752 g (Sattelstütze)
For the 30.9 you need the SPECIALIZED SEATPOST SHIM with 41g.

Overall you save about 88g.

I think I will keep the 41g penalty to have to not deal with the shim, even though it's no big deal as the levo with the Fox dropper I had to use a shim.

This makes PERFECT sense. Appreciate the response. Also had confirmed that the 34.9 is stiffer (obviously) and will be less prone to shim squeak. Going in for the 34.9 ?

Another same style question: I already own a 31.6 AXS Reverb dropper. A new Turbo SL frameset arrives in a couple of days to build my first ever e-mtb. Now can I keep using this dropper with a 34.9 --> 31.6 shim? I was told that using a shim means the frame warranty will be void. However I see Specialized is using a shim to get from 34.9 --> 30.9 on their S-works full bikes. Meaning I will be OK with my dropper + shim?
Thanks! Jos

shim is OEM on S-works as you say so should be fine but you will be running a different shim spec. worth checking with Specialized Elite LBS.
