This is the second time this has happened now and it’s only started since I started to remove the battery and take in the house to charge, it’s only in my office so no mad hot but when I install back in the bike it won’t come on, only a red light for a second then goes off.

I’ve looked in the port and all four green LED’s are on and not showing a fault, last time it came on after about 20mins of trying but after an hour it’s doing nothing?

Any ideas?

Update, just gone and tried it again and still nothing only the four battery green lights on, when I press and hold the power button in light 1/3 then 2/4 flash alternatively then go off, press the power button and the four light up again.

Think I’ve found the issue, a quick search of this forum put me onto a thread to check if the internal power cable is clean, after removing the crank arm and plastic cover I removed the power cable. I could see a crack all the way around and the port was wet inside. See pics below, two of the five prongs are not even connected so you think I could get a new one under warranty?

Definitely, its a known issue.

I think they're up to version 3 of the cable, yours would be the original if it's not been replaced before.

@SpecializedRiderCare can you advise what I have to do? Do I contact evans cycles where I purchased this from to get warranty?

Just call your LBS and tell them what you have found. If they are cooperative, you can just send them an email with the photos you provided here as evidence for them to order you a new cable under warranty. Some LBS insist on fitting the new one themselves but it really is not necessary. Specialised have included a diagram of how the new cable design is fitted ( search for the main thread on "power cable failure").

Thanks I’ve emailed a few local stores, also my regional specialized concept store. Hopefully get something back from them soon, don’t fancy being without a bike for the next few weeks.

Well just had Leisure Lakes bikes call me after I sent them an email last night, basically said take it back to the place I brought it from, even though LLB are an approved specialized dealer you could tell he didn't really want to get involved. Said he had a mechanic off with covid for the next two weeks and the earliest he could look at it would be mid January.

Response from the Specialized Concept store:

Hi Lee,

Thank you for sending this across, you're certainly correct that their has been a revision to the main harness to prevent the cracking and water ingress you're experiencing.

To get this changed, we would need to open a case with Specialized UK, provide them with the bikes proof of purchase and they will then send through a new harness Once we have received this, we would then be back in touch to arrange a time for you to come to store and we change the harness and apply waterproof grease to all connectors to increase water resistance. Currently, due to the volume of enquiries and emails Specialized UK are receiving, this process usually takes around 2/3 weeks. With the Holiday period coming up, this may again extend.

This is the same process for all Specialized dealers across the UK, so can all help as the warranty is global. We are of course happy to help, if you could send us through the proof of purchase we can start the case and then get the ball rolling.

Many thanks,

Man this is a bummer 4 weeks with no bike :-(

so send them the details they need, then repair the connector and go ride. Its not rocket science...its only a connector.

You need to reconnect/solder 2 of the connectors and then put the plug back together and repair it with superglue or araldite. To stop it cracking again it is best to remove the outer sheath of the cable for at least 50% of its length and then wrap it with amalgamating tape. Make sure the cable entry to both the motor and battery plugs are sealed. You can use something like Aquaseal to do that. Its worth the time not only because it gets you back into action but also when your new cable is fitted you may be able to keep your repaired cable as a spare.

Exactly the same thing happened to me at the beginning of the year. Berksihre cycles will send you a new cable in the post FOC under warranty. I didn’t even purchase the bike from them original, service is second to none.
All you will have to do is pay the postage by card when you talk to them and then you will have it through the letter box a couple of days later.

I had exactly the same with the green lights on the battery but the TCU not working, I did get a temporary fix by putting the cable in a radiator overnight and then it worked for 2 more rides then died completely.

I’ve contacted Berkshire cycles and they said they need the bike, thing is I’m 170 miles away from them. I’ve said it’s a non starter me binging the bike over due to the distance, I’ve asked if they can post and use the pictures and proof of ownership, I’m just awaiting a reply.

They should be able to do that for you, mine was back in Feb so just before all the COVID etc. I sent them my prof of purchase and the old lead back.

So bike was in at specialized Birmingham yesterday, they fitted a new power harness and did a diagnostic run and called me and said it’s fixed come and collect it.

turned the bike on this morning and got the below error lights within seconds, did a hard reset but still doing it. Contacted them back telling them what the issue is and they suggested as they only did a small tear ride it could be the speed sensor and as I did a longer ride this morning then I would have picked it up. I told them I never rode the bike and just turned it on, they will get one on order but I said it would most likely be a motor as the bike was stationary.

They are now telling me they have to order the bits in and it will be three weeks before I can get the bike into them so proper pissed off and will be a total of almost 9 weeks that’s even if they fix the issue, you would think a concept store would hold at least some stock rather then order what they need in.

I would be inclined to check what they said they did. If they changed the power cable and it fixed it...at least for their short test....it suggests the lead or how it is connected at either may still be the issue.
