Kenevo Gen1 2019 Kenevo crack?

Wondering if anyone else out there with a 2018/2019 Kenevo has seen this where the shock mounts to the frame there is a gap between the 2 welds and there appears to be movement there.
I had a nasty creaking noise coming from the frame that I was having all sorts of issues finding the cause and when I sprayed some chain lube into this crack the noise went away...... The top section of this area of this frame has a continuous weld whereas underneath there is a gap in the weld.

Could be normal but keen to see what other kenevo's look like just in case it needs further attention.

Depends what you consider close, I’m about 30k’s from the ocean.

Looking at the picture, the crack looks like a straight line? Usually cracks are not a straight line.

a few questions
is it an ali frame?
if so the large pic showing the pivot holes and what looks like a crack
to me is the butting of the aluminium.
you have a weld top and bottom and this for some reason has not been
carried through and what you see is a crack yes, but a manufacturing fault.
the crack (i will call it joint) looks perfectly straight.
i would have thought paint also would not adhere to joint like that

Yup, the 1.3 (2018/19) Kenevo is Aluminium.

It would appear that part of the frame is made in 2 halves. What you are looking at is the joint between the halves not a crack. It is welded above and below but not along that joint line....possibly to maintain a clearance?? ( I am not familiar with that frame design). That said I can see no reason why it should cause a problem other than perhaps to allow a bit of dust/grit to get in there. All ally flexes a little so that could then make a noise. I would rub it down and maybe dribble a bit of araldite in there and then paint it black.

I wrote that before zimmers helpful photo. Yes that section is made in 2 halves and welded to the stub on the down tube and then to the 2 separate parts of the top tube, and the lack of weld in the middle is to enable greater clearance.
Overall seems a bit of an abortion of a design compared to the Levo method of mounting the shock!!

Hey ! You're talking about the greatest bike frame of all time !!

At the time I think they were visually trying to emulate the Specialized Enduro silhouette as much as possible.. "The X-Wing" .. Still, it's well braced and strong as ... something strong ...

Most of my crack and creak sounds come from loose screws on the motor covers.

the weld could have been carried through and ground for clearance.(if needed)
if you had done that at Orange you`d be down the road with a P45
to say how much these bikes are that`s bloody bad workmanship

mmmm....welding a butt joint and then grinding the weld flat is not a good plan. The question should be why it was made so shallow in the first place that the central section would not give enough clearance if a weld joint was added. Regardless, the good news is it is not a problem for the OP but can be cleaned up cosmetically.

Whatever the cause, it's certainly not part of "normal" wear and tear. There is surface corrosion happening under the paint at the joint line, and is either a design or manufacturing defect that should be covered under warranty.
