I’ve left this post dormant for a while, it is a build thread after all, but I’ve just replaced the bearings in the rear triangle and thought it might be useful to someone to detail the bearings needed and methods I used.
I was surprised that there were 12 bearings, I thought there would be 8, but some pivots had double bearings inserted
I bought my new bearings from Trail Vision
Their Blue Seal bearings are 2RS LLU, treated with marine grease and the prices are competitive.
Main Pivot x 2 (1 each side + spacer tube)
6000 - 10 x 26 x 8mm
Rocker to Seat Tube x 4 (2 each side + spacer tube)
6800 - 10 x 19 x 5mm
Rocker to Seat Stay x 2 (1 each side)
6800 - 10 x 19 x 5mm
Chain Stay to Seat Stay x 4 (2each side)
688 - 8 x 16 x 5mm
When I started I had no idea what bearings I would need so I knocked the old ones out and measured them, any markings were long gone. I don’t have any pullers but since I was replacing everything I used a combination of punches screwdrivers and sockets to knock out the old bearings. The main pivot and main rocker pivot had spacer tubes between the two sides, I levered these out of the way to allow me to hit the bearing directly. Obviously you need to go steady and make sure to keep the bearing straight as you knock them out. It’s fairly straightforward if you done this type of thing before
Then it’s just a case of cleaning everything up and pressing the new bearings in, I do have a set of Lifeline presses for this, it is much easier than using old bearings and a selection of bolts, washers and sockets like I have in the past
Some of the old bearings were still serviceable but the main pivot ones were trashed, as you’d expect but since the bike is 5 years old I replaced them all for a factory fresh setup
