Shimano E7000 Motor . Riding out I had 2 bars left and hit a big hill and selected boost. Suddenly it jumped into ECO and then straight into OFF within seconds. Tried to turn off and then on again but battery dead. 8 Mile manual ride home! Has anyone had this. I only just got the bike A Marin Pine Martin. I had only ridden 14 miles and started with 4 bars.

Is this due to the lighting function being active?

I've read in various threads that the control unit ensures there's enough energy to power a light for a period of time, and it's active even if there is no light on or even attached.

I think the function can be turned off in Stunlocker and obviously by a dealer.

It's discussed here from post #26 onwards;

Nobody can say for sure why it's happening. Some claim the bms-system is conservative and if you pull too much power and the battery current crumbles because it sits below 40% it cuts off to protect it from being discharged too much, which could result in a faster ageing battery.

Then the motor could pull too much energy in boost meaning it's not as efficient as competitors or the cells are inferior quality or all these reasons combined.

Yep that's normal. If you only have two bars left never ride up a steep hill in boost longer than a few seconds.
Geez - I rode a monster climb in boost. I'd been on 2 bars for a while before starting. It was a steep firetrail; on the edge of traction for 2km. Then played around on some lower trails after the descent down single track. I was trying to use up the juice and not far from the van. I had to give up with one bar left; it got dark.

It depends on your battery health, weight plus a few other factors. I should have wrote "one bar" but if you need to get over a mountain to reach your destination/car I would be careful with boost in general but it also depends on the boost setting how much energy it pulls. But riding boost medium continuously melts the bars away pretty quick for me...

I have boost on low. I never use it by myself - I was with a mad mate who only likes going down, so he takes the boring short ride up :(

I have never used Boost other than at the end of a ride on a non-technical trail when I don't care about battery consumption and just want to get back to the truck for a beer...it's fairly pointless with Trail mode providing the best of both worlds.
