Yes, they're excellent at keeping your hands warm. I've used them a lot in Scotland where it often tends to be wet as well as cold and although my hands have been wet they've never been cold. I use my ultra thin TLD summer gloves under them as I just like wearing them but bare hands would be...
The rotors should be okay but I used the Magura hose not the Shimano one. It's really easy to do though so don't be put off thinking it'll be difficult (assuming that you're reasonably competent on the wrenches). I used MT5 calipers and hoses with M8120 calipers and the
results have been really...
I've used various brands and my current favourite set up is RRP front, SKS Mudrocker rear. They're very effective and easy to fit plus they don't look too terrible (although all mudguards are ugly IMHO).
No, not yet. The X2 is still sitting in the bottom of my spare parts box. I'll send it off at some point to have a service though. It'd be interesting to stick it back on again after I've got used to the coil shock and see how it feels.
I haven't ridden that much over the last five weeks. I had...
It's great, not massively better than the X2 that was on before but I know that this one won't start squelching and need constant maintenance. Adds a fair chunk of extra weight to the bike though if that's something that bothers you.
This is the plastic panel/bashplate from under my motor. I recently completely rebuilt my Reign so had the opportunity to have a good look at the various bits. You can see the obvious damage caused by decking out on logs, roots, rocks etc. there is a hole punched through it but it seems to...
I managed to find a Praxxis steel 34t when I was looking to gear down, it was heavily discounted though so maybe it was end of line/end of stock. It was identical to the OEM chainring fitted to my Reign E+1 other than being two teeth smaller.
I suspect that 32t will be the sweet spot for me as well. I honestly can't see the point of big gears when the assistance cuts around 15mph, does anyone routinely ride above 15mph off-road other than downhill (when the motor cut is less significant)?
I dropped down from the OEM 36t to a 34t soon after getting my bike (2022 E+1) to get more clearance. I ride a lot of tight techy trails with rooty and rocky drop offs that are too slow to pop off so have to be rolled and I was constantly decking the 36t chainring out. I imagine all the force...
I went down from the ridiculous 36t OEM chainring to a 34 just to gain more ground clearance. I hate the thought of decking the chainring out as all that force is then being transferred to the bearings in the motor. 34 gives better clearance but when the time comes to replace my transmission...
I've got one coming for my Reign, no idea what tune it has (there's no mention of different tunes on the UK distributers website). I'll be interested to see how it fares in comparison to the squelchy X2 that it's replacing. I'll probably send the X2 back to Fox for a service/rebuild so that I...
No harm to you OCD cockpit obsessives but I really don't get it. I honestly don't care about the cables and hoses being visible as long as everything works. As a bike shop mechanic I also hate the move to everything being internally routed, it makes easy, routine maintenance tasks harder purely...
As someone who's actually done this mod and been riding 155 cranks for over a year (and has been riding mountain bikes since 1989) let me assure you that it pretty much is all roses.
Small adjustment to seat height required as you rightly state but no software changes or adjustments to bar...
Yep, I bought 155 Mirandas off Amazon (UK) and they came without any bolts. I planned to use them to prove that I could get on with shorter cranks with a view to upgrading to Hopes if I did. A year later they're still on my bike and still going strong. They bear the usual scars from decking out...
I'm six feet/183cm tall and I'm riding 155mm cranks currently (down from 170oem) and considering going even shorter.
I think a lot of people are hung up on traditional crank lengths from analogue bikes but I don't think you can make a direct comparison. I'm still riding 175s on my analogue MTBs...
Nice videos and those trails look fun. Although it's hard to be completely certain after just watching a video, I reckon I'd be happy riding that terrain without a front insert. It doesn't look particularly rocky.
I've run inserts front and rear in the past but now just run one in the rear (even on my ebike). I just found that the front one was unnecessary in practice (whereas the rear one does a solid job protecting my tyre and rim to some extent at least).
