    Shigura vs Hope T4V4

I think chopping the Magura levers off and grafting on Shimano levers is likely to invalidate the warranty! 😂

    Shigura vs Hope T4V4

Fwiw, I have a pair of Saint brakes on another bike and have Shigura (XT levers and MT5 calipers) on my ebike and I think the Shigura set up is better (although Saint is very good). You can use either Shimano or Magura fluid with Shiguras (some people have used a mixture to get purple fluid!) I...

Messing with the standard stem on a Reign.

I was just wondering whether anyone has tried a different length stem on a Reign E? I've just trusted Giant to have got it right up to now although I've always thought that the standard stem lengths were quite long for this type of bike. The other day I noticed my headset had a bit of play in it...

Hi all. Trail building in the uk.

I've been involved in our local trails a bit. It started out with just me wanting some better stuff to ride nearby but things exploded during lockdown with lots of other people building stuff. I ended up being the point of contact with the Forest Manager due to me being an Admin on our local...

What tyres? The Ultimate Tyre Thread

This is exactly the way that I'm going to go (for the same reasons).

What tyres? The Ultimate Tyre Thread

Yeah, you're right but sometimes folks make comments that a certain tyre is the best thing ever without qualifying it by describing their local riding conditions (or even their riding style or the type of riding they like to do) so I tend to take recommendations with a pinch of salt.

What tyres? The Ultimate Tyre Thread

I've been running Kryptotals and am just about to swap back to Maxxis I think. The Contis are okay but I prefer the feel and easy fitting of Maxxis tyres. Think I'm going to go Assagai Maxxgrip front and DHR 2 Maxxterra rear both in DD. Tyre choices are so dependant on local conditions that it's...

What tyres? The Ultimate Tyre Thread

You might lose a little ground/pedal clearance but it won't be much and depending on what your bike is it probably won't matter. Fwiw I went from a 2.5 WT Maxxis rear to a 2.4 Kryptotal and the difference between them is negligible. That being said, if I buy Kryptotals again I'm going to seek...

New Pinion integrated gearbox and motor (MGU)

Whilst I think that a combined mid mounted motor and gearbox is almost certainly the way ahead I'm not so convinced about the belt drive for all conditions. I suspect a conventional chain drive running an eight or nine speed chain (as mentioned previously) may be a better all-round option. I...

New Pinion integrated gearbox and motor (MGU)

I was thinking that this would be logical as well. I know it's seen as very much a retro step with motorbikes (afaik Enfield India were the last to manufacture a non-unit engine/gearbox) but on an ebike with the relatively short life span of current electric motor units it would make more sense.

New Pinion integrated gearbox and motor (MGU)

Do we really need to speak about the effects of unsprung weight vs sprung weight? It's one of the big factors in how reactive a suspension system is. Taking that weight off the back wheel means that the suspension can effectively be more supple and effective (just ask McTrailrider or anyone else...

New Pinion integrated gearbox and motor (MGU)

Pinion are used to building gearboxes for conventional bikes so I don't think that drag will be a major issue with this one.

New Pinion integrated gearbox and motor (MGU)

I'm amazed that it's taken so long for somebody to do this. Gearboxes make total sense on an ebike that already has all that mass in the middle of the bike anyway. I reckon that they'll be pretty much universal in five years time (as I said on the YouTube video comments).

    Best pedal friendly knee pads

My elbow pads are the non Sam Hill, basic 7idp pads. The Sam Hill versions were out of stock everywhere when I wanted a pair. On a positive note, the basic ones are very much along the same lines from what I can tell. If they'd had a blue Sam Hill label sewn on I'd have been convinced they were...

    Best pedal friendly knee pads

Yeah, mine are the standard Sam Hills as well. As Zimmerframe mentions they're very secure once you've put them on (although a bit of a PITA to get on, I pull them over my feet with the pad at the back then rotate them into place once they're above my ankles). I had an OTB at the Golfie last...

What Crank Lengths are you using?

In theory I know that you're right but in practice it's not been an issue for me. I lifted the saddle the corresponding amount but my bars stayed the same. When I'm descending my saddle/dropper is slammed anyway so it's irrelevant. I suppose it depends on where you are on the bike sizing scale...

    Even shorter cranks?

That's great to hear. I've been considering going to 145 (from 155 currently) and the Pinnd cranks were top of my shopping list. They look fantastic as well! 😍

What Crank Lengths are you using?

I'm 6' tall and running 155s with no issues. I did put my seat up a bit to compensate but it's not been an issue.

    Best pedal friendly knee pads

I'll third the Sam Hill 7 idp pads, I've used loads of different types over the years and these are the best I've tried. Mega comfy, good protection, they don't slip at all when you're pedalling (no more stopping to pull your pads up before you drop into a trail) and you can remove the pad and...
