Make sure you get the v2 for which you can get an optional handlebar remote. I find that very handy on my setup. Actually.. might just be the 8000 model that works with the remote.
Went to a LBS looking to purchase a Rail 7. Turned out they had no stock in my size or colour. Rather than see me walk away, offered 10% off a $NZ11400 Rail 9 which made it $NZ900 more than the RRP Rail 7. This was during Covid time when nothing was discounted and long waits for stock. They even...
I had the well documented ejecting battery issue occur on my new 2021 Rail 9. Not that they tell you at the time, Trek had developed three different solutions for alignment with the final version sorting the issue for me which was a kit containing a flat metal strip between the battery mounts...
I use a Camelbak MULE Pro 14, light and fits well. Loads of storage pockets etc if needed, magnetic feeder tube attachment and 3L storage. No complaints so far.
Down here in NZ, I went to a chain LBS to purchase a Rail 7, they couldn't find the colour and size I wanted and instead of letting me walk out with my money, they offered me 10% off a Rail 9. Couldn't walk away from that! Super happy!
I went to buy a 7 and due to the lack of availability of my size and colour the shop didn't want me walking out and offered a 9 for $NZ900 more. Couldn't pass that up and what a bike! Love every moment on it.
Exactly.. its the 2nd attempt at a patch for the factory installed battery mechanism fitment issue. My wife's 2019 PF5 key and popout battery works perfectly, My 21 Rail 9 was difficult to work out of the box and the 1st attempted alignment process was a fail. 2nd one was a win.
I found if the key isn't easy to turn and the battery doesn't pop straight out, the lock and battery ousting plates aren't aligned properly. The cage they now supply fixes all that. No need for straps etc.
I'm 180cm or 5'11 with a L Rail 9. Fits great but had to collar the dropper post as this model has a longer stem. Rail 7 stem is shorter which was perfect for my height.
I think here in NZ with the pricing and availability making 2nd hand market super strong,, I'd dive in with a 9 and sell when the model you really want becomes available. Recenrly sold my wife's 2.5yo Powerfly 5 for what we paid for it in just 35mins.
I had my motor replaced under 200km, wasn't right out of the box, took 2 weeks in NZ plus experianced the usual battery ejection but Trek have been good with the latest cage install so still super happy with the product. It's a beast.
Not what I was expecting to purchase but as a long term acquisition, the deal was worth it. It's great to ride but it's only an option if you can find a deal like that.
This might not help your decision but back in June I went to my lbs to purchase a Rail 7, they couldn't find one in stock in my size and colour at any of their stores. Not wanting to see someone walk out with that coin to spend they knocked down a bright orange 2021 Rail 9 which cost me $NZ900...
My new Rail 9 had this play out of the box, didn't seem right and after 200km run in under instruction Bosch replaced the motor. Its definitely better now, still.some play but ok. Now just have to solved the battery falling out issue.
