Throwing in my two cents - I ended up going for the Focus despite niggling reservations about the battery, and I have no regrets. The inbuilt battery handles about 60km for me, which is a few hours riding through admittedly fairly flat off-road terrain here in the Netherlands. I bought the...
Ah yes I remember seeing that option online. Works as long as you don’t update the Shimano software to 4.3.4 or higher. Shame it got blocked by Shimano.
I’m waiting for a dongle to be created that still displays the real speed on the display.
The hard limit at 25 is so annoying. I imagine it would be possible and a good compromise to have assistance taper off gradually from 25 up to, say, 35. But yes that’s just wishful thinking, the chances of the limit changing Europe-wide at this point is extremely small.
I'd really like to get a Garmin Edge 1030. I tend to prefer dedicated units, like my TomTom RIDER on my motorbike, over using my iPhone. The Garmin has some cool Strava features that I think would be great, but it is a pricey bugger. I'll need to wait until I have 500 Euros burning a hole in...
There are dongles available now but they make your computer show only half the speed. There are folks working on one that doesn’t do that, if/when it comes out I’ll probably get it.
Great read! Bicycles were also a magical presence in my life since my very first BMX bike when I was 7 or 8. I can still vividly remember the feeling of freedom and adventure as I ventured out and explored my local area. Decades later and that feeling has never really gone away - I’ve been...
Well the research is half the fun, enjoy it! :) I think there are tons of great ebike options these days and it’s probably hard to go wrong. But from my research, I do think that along with the Levo, the Focus bikes are probably up there as one of the best options around if you want something...
I only managed two long rides last weekend since getting it, as I go back to the city for work during the week. But from those two rides I’ve been extremely impressed - it’s a great bike, handles beautifully and the Shimano system is smooth and powerful. The riding I do does not include...
My Stromer ST2 speed pedelec already has regenerative braking. It’s a high tech beast, also has a SIM card built-in, tracks location if stolen, downloads it’s own updates over the air, etc...
Bikes are just going to get smarter and smarter.
Ah that’s possible. That would explain why some of the reviewers on YouTube mentioned that they were testing European versions of the Focus bikes with the ‘low’ limit.
Today was just my 2nd ride on my new Focus Jam2. I ran into three guys on hardtails who saw my bike and went ‘wtf is that - is it electric?’ They were clearly very skeptical. I gave them my story about living and working in the city, not having the time I had to train like I had 20 years ago...
She is! Just did my best to empty the battery completely like the instructions said, had to do the last 30 minutes in Boost mode. Three hours of biking, 50km and really not being sparing with the battery. That’s not bad range for this ‘little’ battery. Terrific fun - this was my first real...
