At least 38 were injured in a Manhattan apartment building blaze that was caused by a lithium-ion battery

There was a thread recently complaining about the price of Bosch chargers citing cheaper alternatives. This is one good reason to avoid cheap chargers. There has been a spate of serious fires where cheap chargers were identified as the cause...

Bosch Gen 4 and over 25Kph problems ( motor doesn't seem to disengage )

Bosch advertised the Gen 4 motor as having "less drag" than the previous motor so by definition there has to be a little drag. I've owned both versions in basically what is the same bike so I know that the Gen 4 has less drag. Having said that, when you exceed 25kph on my bike the assistance...

    E120 Golden Oldie

I had a ride out today on my old (very old) non-electric E120. At just over 12kg it feels an easier ride than my 24kg Trek Powerfly 7 does on eco. I'm wondering if I wasted my money :D The Whyte Coniston belongs to my wife; you wouldn't believe the stuff she's ridden on this. I'm gonna be in...

    Bontrager Tyre Removal

You're right Doug. The plastic rim strip actually forms a step that you have force the bead over. I was reluctant to remove it as it's a very neat rim / valve seal for going tubeless but you're probably right to say removing it is the only solution. Thanks.

    Bontrager Tyre Removal

My 2021 Trek Powerfly 7 has XR3 Team Issue tyres on Bontrager tubeless ready rims. The tyres are a nightmare to remove. The tyre bead will not move over to the centre of the rim without extreme force being applied. I can do it in my workshop with plenty of tools around but I dread having do it...

If you BUY an EBIKE because you Need it, read this first.

It might be a good idea to replace the screws with something like 8.8 grade before the original ones break. If they break that easily they must be something like 4.8 grade although it's difficult to see how Bosch would use something that soft. I see someone on the MBR forum used 10.4s but they...

29's or 27.5's, realistically whats the biggest benefit's?

I've had both on two successive models of the same bike (a 2019 model and a 2021 model). I started on a 29er having come from many years riding 26" none powered bikes. I enjoyed it and it was quick but always felt a bit big and cumbersome. So when I changed it I went for 27.5" (actually the bead...

    deristriction worry

You're spot on with your comments about Bosch. My local bike shop have said they can tell by analysing data whether or not a bike has been deristricted. That goes for the Gen 2 and Gen 4 motors that I have had. I didn't ask them specifically but got involved in the tail end of a general...

    Battery Capacity

After receiving some criticism for making the initial point that a smaller capacity battery option, saving weight and cost might be a viable option for some models and some customers I now see that for 2022 Trek are doing just that. Inquiring about a Powerfly 4 for my wife I learned that the...

When do you don your full face helmet?

So do you think that in 25 years of riding off road that I've never had a bad off? A full face wouldn't have protected my collar bone or my femur. If you think that wearing full DH kit on Southend sea front doesn't look ridiculous fair enough.....each to his own. :D I wear body armour when it's...

When do you don your full face helmet?

You get a much better feel for what's going on around you, much better spatial awareness imho. I said earlier that I'd never owned a full face; that's not quite true. I used to wear one riding a motorbike on the road but always wore an open face when Moto-X racing.

When do you don your full face helmet?

I've never owned a full face helmet. Over the last 25 years I've ridden in the Sierra Nevada (many times), Coed y Brenin (many times), Whistler, Forest of Dean Cannock Chase, Dalby, Grizedale etc etc. I see guys on eMTBs with the full Fox Moto-X gear and full face helmets riding down Southend...

    Let's hear some good news.

Since a lot of threads are about problems and hopefully some solutions I just thought I'd say that I am very pleased with the totally trouble free, utterly reliable 1200+ miles I have clocked on my 2021 Trek Powerfly 7 this year. I know forums are more likely to contain problems than praise but...

    Why eMtb? What I've learned...

If you burn off the glycogen in your muscles and reduce your blood sugar your body should then try to access your fat stores to maintain blood sugar levels and start replacing glycogen. As for calorie burn measurements, an accurate measurement of watt/hours can be translated into what would be a...

    Why eMtb? What I've learned...

Since ebikes all have a very accurate built in power meter to gauge just how much you're putting into the pedals I'm going to assume that the calorie counter on my Kiox display is fairly accurate. If that is so then mine would indicate that I use about 1500 to 2000 calories on a forty to forty...

'People who ride eBikes are lazy.'

I did 42 miles today, mixed dirt and tarmac. 1,600 calories according to Kiox. I've done 640 on my Trek powerfly since January and I recon the Powerfly in eco takes more effort than my Whyte E120 or my Boardman Pro Carbon road bike on flat tarmac and a lot more than either bike over 25kph. I...

Has anyone else had this problem with Bosch CX motor?

I've done about 450 miles since Christmas on my 2021 Powerfly 7. I had a short power loss last time out.....just for a few seconds. I'd convinced myself that I was in too high a gear on a hill and had imagined it. I'll start looking out for shards of disc rotor now. :)

Has anyone else had this problem with Bosch CX motor?

A few people have mentioned metal filings on the magnet. Do they originate from the disc / pads?

You know it's not your day when...

I've bought enough bikes to know that bits left over after a bike has been assembled and set up sometimes get chucked into a toolbox or spares box. If you ask for them you usually get them no problem. I most definitely was not accusing anyone of stealing parts for their own use or profit. I hope...

You know it's not your day when...

When I wrote "yours" Gary I didn't mean you specifically, I meant anyone who didn't get them with their bike; like addressing the group as a whole :) It's easy to write something that will be misunderstood.................as you are well aware
