Unless something completely game changing comes long, or you have money to burn, I would keep what you have. But then my Bosch powered Cube hardtail is nearly 6 years old (and still going strong), my Focus is over 3 years old and also still fine. I also routinely ride my unassisted Trek MTB...
In my experience pretty good tyres for all round use. Not that good in really wet muddy conditions but then that's true of lots of tyres and you need a much more open tread pattern for that. They wear well too. They were in really short supply a year or so ago but seem to be plenty around now.
Totally agree but sadly I don't think it will happen because it's simply not in the interests of the manufacturers who want to keep selling new ebikes. I suspect their business plans are built on an assumptions that those who can afford it will keep buying new and the life expectancy of the...
I have an older Reaction Hybrid Pro and the rim tape was certainly not tubeless but it was obvious just looking at it. If you put a tubeless tyre on it will soon be obvious if the rim is sealed or not but my inclination would be to replace it just to be sure. Not least because you may have...
Same thing happened to me a while back on my Focus. Seems the piston jammed, maybe down to some dirt getting in. I was really surprised you can't buy replacement pistons and it cost me a new calliper. Took the original back to the dealer who said they would have to return it (to Focus) but...
I've used Muc-Off tape on both my bikes and it's been absolutely fine. As with all rim tapes it pays to make sure the rim is spotlessly clean and don't rush it when putting the tape on the rim. I'm a great fan of the Muc-Off valves too because they come with a choice of rubber seals and you...
I have a Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro almost identical to yours by the sound of it. If you're going to keep it as your only / main bike my number one priority would be replace the forks, the Suntour ones are dreadful. However I bought a full suspension bike instead (and have never regretted it)...
My hardtail Cube is 10 speed and that always seemed plenty to me. My Focus Jam2 is 12 speed and I often think it's far more than I actually need and means it's more prone to wear and the chains and cassette are more expensive when you need to replace them. I think the manufacturers fit 12...
I would say we need them to keep making improvements to their products and if that sometimes means they aren't backwards compatible then so be it.
I'll continue to be perfectly happy to ride my largely unmodified Bosch Gen 4 Focus Jam2 for a fair few years yet as long as it keeps working and...
The offset rims are a real pain. I have the same ones and even with an equivalent of the Airshot I struggle. The only reliable way I've found is to seat with a tube and then unseat on one side - the side with a wider shoulder on the rim, and then remove the tube. Then it's easy.
You will probably need valves unless they supply you some. You take the tubes out and you're left with a hole in the rim. What they probably mean is that the rims come 'taped up',
All the valves I've used are designed so that there is a rubber seal that sits on the inside of the rim and an o-ring that sits on the outside under the lock ring. The o-ring is there to stop the lock nut damaging the ring. You may get different shaped rubber seals to suit different shape rims...
Fitted a new rear tyre last week and when I took the old one off I found quite a few thorns embedded in it. Every one would have been a puncture repair if I'd had tubes in. But running tubeless I hadn't even noticed. Where I ride thorns are a huge problems and I used to get masses of...
It does seem to be a fairly common problem and usually the non-drive side. I had it happen once and lost the crank bolt which made for an interesting ride home. I now check them fairly regularly just to be sure.
In the end I found the details on the Focus website. There are diagrams with lists of Focus-specific part numbers for every bike. Unfortunately they are low resolution images but you can just about make out the part numbers. I hadn't realised it was all there - and it could be really useful...
It would appear that the bracket is a Focus specific part. At least there is a Focus part number for it. I had wondered if they had designed it to use a standard bracket in the low position and a special Focus bracket in the high position. But sadly if seems they are both specific to the...
I've contacted Focus and apparently it should have come with the "low" adapter but I can only get one through the dealer. I'm waiting for them to come back to me. I'm holding off buying a wheel until I know I can get the adapter.
Interesting. Mine didn't come with the extra adapter. I'll have to see if I can get one.
The standard chainring on mine is 34 teeth so 36 is only marginally bigger.
I've been thinking of trying a 27.5 rear wheel on my Jam2 for a while. With the flip chip, when you change to the lower position does that mean you need to change the position of the brake calliper too (with a different adapter)? I can't quite visualise how the rotor will sit with respect to...
Forget about running really low pressures. I find with my rim/ tyre combination that around 20psi is a good compromise. Lower than 15psi I really notice the movement in tyre and much lower still and the handling is all over the place.
The real difference and the reason I'm stickling with...
