I broke my mech last ride out and today, while I had the mech and chain off, I spun the pedals and they moved very easily - taking a short while to slow down and stop. I decided to measure the motor resistance to pedalling and to measure it as precisely as I could without being silly about it...
I was doing a bike build with my grandson and he asked me where does the word "decal" come from?
So, I looked it up!
It is from a French word "decalcomania" meaning "the art of transferring pictures".
Who knew? (well, the French obviously!)
I am doing a bike build for my grandson and I will have a load of stuff to sell afterwards. eBay used to send me offers on a regular basis that were not only no selling fees (now standard), but also zero commission! In other words, I got to keep all of the selling price! The money I will make...
I have been looking at replacing the fork and shock decals for my grandson's bike project. After specifying the fork, brand, type and the exact damping configuration, I keep getting asked which year the fork is. Ditto for the shock.
If they are not even interested in what wheel size the fork...
I have bought a used fork for my grandson and the best one I could find has the threaded EDC conversion. (If you know, you know).
It came with a blue top cap and all his bling is Hope red.
Has anyone got a red one I can swap for a blue one?
Or know where I can get one without paying...
I have bought a used Orange Five frame off eBay. The frame had been sent back to Orange for a respray and new rear triangle. The seller has all the usual good stuff, 100% score, excellent feedback and so forth. He was also very helpful with my questions, gave his time freely.
The frame arrived...
Apologies for this not being an e-bike specific question, but I know that most of you guys have had mtbs before and are a font of all biking knowledge. I'm hoping that you can help. :)
My grandson has a 1x11 Orange Five with a 142mm wide hub spacing and a 12mm dia axle. He has a medium frame...
I broke the lever on my Shimano XT brake lever assembly. It's the one on the left side of the bars (does the rear brake in the UK).
The Shimano code is BR M8100 L
All I need is the lever but it's been on order with Shimano via the LBS for almost two years now. I'd need the hinge pin that goes...
My grandson was complaining about his squeaky rear brake. His pads were like this:
They were oil soaked.
I had previously checked that his brake calliper was not leaking, so I'm fairly sure that it was contamination. I have repeatedly told him not to put so much oil on his chain! Anyway, I...
Last night at 9:30 in the evening, I got myself a can from the beer fridge and decided to top up the fridge from the stash in the lobby. When the door into the lobby is opened, my beer stash is behind the door. When that door is fully opened the lobby is reduced in size to 6'x 3'.
I dropped a...

Has anyone fitted a set of these?
https://muc-off.com/collections/big-bore-tubeless-valves?page=1
Despite always leaving my bike parked with the valves at the bottom, my Presta valves get clogged with sealant on a regular basis. So I like the idea of the new valve from Muc-off. With approx...
I broke the lever on my Shimano XT lever assembly on 12th August 2021. I called in at the LBS on the way home and he tried fitting levers from scrap assemblies that he had lying around. All were too thick, so he ordered one that day. It was the pandemic of course and most of Shimano's factories...
What prompted me to make a list?
I made a temporary repair to my saddle that lasted longer afterwards than the life I had before the repair. After a recent very wet and gritty ride, the stitches finally failed on the shoulders and the saddle burst open. I reached for a temporary replacement in...
The actual lever for a Shimano XT left hand brake lever assembly. The Shimano ID number for the assembly is BL-M8100-L
I had an off, climbing something too steep, fell of backwards and sideways and bent the lever. It snapped when I tried to straighten it. The LBS couldn't get one (the pandemic...
I measured my discs today, both are "Shimano Steps Ice Tech FREEZA rotors, 203mm". The front is RT-EM900, the rear (with the magnet) is RT-EM910.
Both are 1.96mm thick in the unworn sections. Both have "1.5 mm minimum thickness" engraved on the disc. The front one measures 1.68 mm (OK), the rear...
I came across this ebike yesterday, took this pic:
Single speed, 3 modes, 14" wheels, 250W motor
The guy had been riding it for about a year and thought it was wonderful. He used it for moving about the town, going to work, shopping etc. Said he got about 20 miles out of a charge. Said it...
Meet at 10:00 am ready-to-ride, Sat 15th Jun by the right side of the cafe veranda, overlooking the big field.
The postcode for Sherwood Pines is NG21 9JL, but ignore the sat nav when you turn off the public road and just follow the signs for the car park. Your reg no will be scanned on the way...
The Red, Blue and Green trails have all mostly dried out and are running well. Because they are maintained by the Forestry Commission (edit: now Forestry England), the numerous and widespread fallen trees have all been cleared. The numerous off-piste trails are also dry and running well, but are...
