@RazorBlade I think that even if he isn't shifting properly, it shouldn't break so prematurely. He would feel some chain wear symptoms first, like chain skipping, jumping, sucking. Still some solid advises.
Keep it civil...
I see a lot of miscommunication, hints of assumptions, a touch of drama... That's not a good recipe.
For what it's worth I'm a social worker without a massive income and I'm pretty happy with the reliability of my entry level emtb since April 2017. I mean I replaced...
2 chains in 3 months... with multiple repairs on the first one!? Both time a cn-m7100?
I found 2 reviews in the last 30 days that complained about this chain snapping although it is almost brand new (on non-e bikes).
I never liked the Shimano 6 bolts to center-lock adapter :(. There's a slight back and forth play in the disc (you don't really notice it while riding) and I hated the low profile bolts heads that were smaller than regular 6 bolts. Harder to deal with and easier to strip. It works fine on my...
Pretty excited, first fork service :)
My lockout isn't working right recently and after reading about it I know what's up.
After that I'll jump into building wheels.
Sram butter
Sram suspension fluid 5wt & 15wt

The fork is a cheap Recon RL non-boost 2018 with QR (no thru...
I might buy one in a few months. E-Bike Vision GmbH: PowerPack – compatible with the Yamaha PW series I've seen the 745Wh discounted around 680€. I might get the 620Wh tho, for the weight.
My battery is a 420Wh at 75% of life  .
@Thierry D Awesome! I just moved in around December, then I was a little sick, then covid hit. I went multiple times up there around the french graveyard but can't really remember which route I took back down. Initially I'm from Fleurus so I know Bois de Keumiée, woods around the "S de Tamines"...
Trust me you'll be glad to have a portable and strong source of light if you have a mechanical all alone in the forest at night .
I also enjoyed riding after clocking off work at 10PM (still commuting with the bike). Watch out for the bats at night once you get your big light (not kidding).
You need to learn to manual. It's your body weight going low and to the back tire (like a ⨼ ) THEN quickly shifting it higher and to the front of the bike ( ⟋ )
Look that quick bunny hop Neil's doing.

You can also pop both wheels off the ground at the same time, but it'll...
Me neither 3 years ago, it's not hard with the right tools and documentation :). A great time to have a first look at it is when you'll need to clean & re grease your headset bearings. Or just pay a guy :p.
Yes droppers are mindblowing. Now that I think about it a good set of powerful lights...
Currently on 11-36 and a 38 chainring with a Deore m592 sgs (25-30€ on sales). I used the Altus for a while and it felt fine, even if the Deore feels a bit more precise. The biggest difference I ever noticed is changing gears with a basic 9speed kmc chain v.s. a gold super light one. That and...
Sweet!
If it has a Suntour coiled forks you can find some nice & cheap Rockshox air forks for around 120-170€ later on.
A dropper seatpost is also pretty great :p
That should get you by until an allmtn lol.
I've the Hardseven 2018 with 27.5" and the OG Yamaha PW that is still running smooth...
Yes speed is important. Get out of the saddle, let your body absorbs impacts (elbows, knees). Learn to lift the front wheel even just for a short bit so you can clear obstacles.
How slow were you going? What kind of features scared you?
