Yeah, totally agree, was meant as an answer to Pete, not knocking the E1 at all

It is solved they say, but I contacted Marin anyway and they supplied me with XT cranks free, as Shimano only recommend their own cranks with the EP8 motor.

Shame you didn't get the E2, it's a brilliant bike.

Is the e13 crank issue now fixed?

I contacted Marin direct (I have the Alpine Trail E2) and they sent me out free XT cranks, which Shimano recommend for the EP8. Maybe Orbea will do the same?

Good work - I'd say a definite no there.

Marin Alpine Trail E2 lockring removal

Hello all, does anyone know if this tool is compatible with the E13 chainring lockring? https://www.bicycleservicecentre.co.uk/product/bsctools-cmt-1-tool-for-shimano-steps-lockring-e6100-e7000-e8000-e9000-and-ep8/173?cs=true&cst=custom&page=1&limit=10&sortBy=h_to_l_rating Thanks

I've had a new wheelset for the bike DT Swiss hybrid rims on pro 5 hubs. The difference is night and day, to the extent I've even noticed the battery draining less quickly. Also running rimpacts and maxxis instead of the Vees. Nothing wrong with the stock wheelset but obviously it's fairly heavy...

I had 4 spacers in mine - taken them all out and it feels much better. Not as supple as the Lyriks were but then again these are much beefier, so probably a trade off. Am happy with them now.

    Which Wheels

Well got to say 5 rides in on the DT Swiss and Pro 5 combo - now with Assegai/Minion DHRII and Rimpact inserts front and rear...the bike flies, just seems to roll for ever and very strong wheels, fully recommended.

    Which Wheels

Recently upgraded my stock Marin wheelset on the E2 with DT Swiss HX531 fr HX581 rr hybrid hoops (designed for e-bikes) on Hope pro 5 hubs, rear hub e- bike specific also. Really chuffed, just roll so well. Hand built for 600 quid. Superb. https://bikewheelsdirect.com/ Also my wheel builder...

I'm glad I didn't try it then! 600 seems way off, though I was thinking of having one and keeping it on permanently just for the versatility of it, you know those days when you have a local ride with nothing but you and a water bottle or days away when you have the kitchen sink on your back! 😁...

93/4 kg here, 450lb is perfect for me. Did have pedal strikes on the E13 165mm cranks, but none since I went to 160mm XT cranks and 5mm thinner Hope F20 pedals. I love the feel of the 450. If you are unsure, have you thought of getting a Sprindex? Perfect for working out the best rating for you.

Just got back from the second ride on them - and yes, had them hand built to this spec. The Pro5 hubs just roll forever - I ride the same trails all the time, mostly and I'm finding I'm pedalling much less on the flats and certainly on anything that's even slightly 'down'. It now holds its...
