I'm sure there's "short crankset" firmware version - I remember seeing something when I last updated my bike at the shop - maybe this is what they are referring to?
His bike was missing spacers on the lower guide - Trek did put out a release for owners to get the spacers fitted and reviews after showed this issue was fixed. Then again he hasn't a good reputation for a few bikes he had over the last couple of years
Have a look at the Wolf Tooth B-Rad system - currently I use the bottleshift (https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/collections/b-rad-system/products/b-rad-bottle-shift) that moves the mount a small amount and theres also the half bottle adapter...
Had the same issue as per the video - my bike shop sent my my motor away (think it was to @Bearing Man) who luckily were able to fix the board which fixed it
Or it could be Santa Cruz - the issues with the Heckler with first the battery coming loose and now issues with the ep801 codes make me think it makes sense for them to move to Bosch
