"Diamond Secure" When did that emerge? I had thought that Gold Secure was the top rank.
What are the key differences, anybody know?
Yes, I know I could spend ages on the internet, just wondered if anyone knows already.
I'm willing to bet that they are laser cut to reduce production costs on short runs rather than going to the expense of making dies that can stamp them out. I would like to see the evidence that laser cutting improves the braking performance.
They may of course be made from a different...
White car.
Several years later I did have another Ford Cortina 2.0 GLS, one of the last Cortinas ever made, the Sierra had been on sale for several months when I bought it. The colour was officially "Sienna Brown", but I thought it was deffo a shade of red and so did everyone else. It faded...
I once used Flash on my white Ford Cortina estate car after someone* creosoted their fence with a spray gun. My car was on the other side!!!! The Flash removed the dark brown creosote from the car but it also stripped all the shine from the paint. I had to T-cut and polish the whole car. It took...
Standard bar diameter is 22mm or 2.2cm.
2.22cm is 22.2mm. That 0.2mm oversize is less than 4 one-thousandths of an inch either side. I guess that 22.2mm is the diameter of the inside of the grip. That gives you a tolerance so that they fit onto your 22mm bars without you needing to force them...
@irie I am puzzled by the tone of your last post (#44), so I took the time to review the whole thread.
We appear to agree about suspension because you liked my post #28 on the topic. So it's just tyre pressures.
In your post #29 you quote me from that post (#28) and then list some front and...
Several years ago, I bought a 5-litre container of Hope's "Sh1t Shifter" and I still have a lot of it left. I use it neat via a half litre spray for the oily bits (plus a gear brush). I also use it on my hands to get oil and grease stains off. For the rest of the bike, I use it diluted as a...
Sitting astride my Merida eOne-Sixty, I just grabbed the bars and heaved until whatever it is inside the headtube was centralised. It was easier than I thought and it made me wonder just how effective it might be if I actually did have a crash.
About a year later, I had to replace the...
I found the tyre pressure article a revelation when I first read it. I wish that I had come across it much earlier in my mtb life. It is why I supplied the link. I did not see it as a technical article at all. It is clearly aimed at beginners. I have many times used the lessons I learned from...
Many years ago I worked in Logistics. To help explain stuff to non-logisticians we had a supply chain game. There were people playing the role of raw material suppliers, manufacturers, retailers and customers. The customer placed an order, the retailer satisfied it, their stock went down and...
I'm not at all surprised at the result of the push test. A wheel depends massively on the spokes to deliver stiffness. The spokes are very strong in tension and support the rim.
The key property for stiffness is the Young's Modulus for the material. Carbon fibre has a very high YM, much higher...
I can't tell you what tyre pressure to use. I don't know what you weigh and I have never used those tyres; they may be stiff walled or not. And I don't know whether you ride seriously rocky trails or forest loam. But my pressures are a lot lower than your reasonable 26-30 psi.
Front tyre Maxxis...
Ref my previous post #10760 about the 13-year old lad getting his scramble bike and himself stuck in the mud.
This was it on the day (the hottest day of the year).
This was it yesterday, taken from right angles and to the left. It followed one of the wettest weeks for a while.
That's at...
@EmtbChar Let's not forget that setting % sag is not an end in itself, it is just the starting position. The guidance from the suspension manufacturers is just to give you a starting point. They offer advice on all the dials on your fork, not just the sag.
Once you have set the %sag, go ride...
Ref my post about buying three folding saws in post #5089
First outing today and I thought I'd tackle a tree across the trail; it was wider than the blade was long by about an inch. I started with the underneath and worked up the sides. I was making good progress when the blade came out! The...
@EmtbChar Read these, they are excellent.
This one is suspension setting from Bike Rumour.

This is about finding your ideal tyre pressures. It's from PinkBike's tech Tuesday sessions...
