Well bad news...one day after the last big ride I described above, I have a dead motor.
Observations:
1. On the Downieville climb, ambient temps 25-33C (77-91f), ~2500’ of climbing in first 5 miles, motor temp reached 84C per Mission Control. Power delivery became erratic.
2. On the Two...
I’ve seen over 80c each time I have climbed big this Summer. 82 and 84c in two most recent rides.
My motor just failed night before last.
2019 Levo Expert
Use a Garmin Fenix 5. Love it.
I’ve had Cushcore since day 1. Lower tire pressure plus the damping of the insert gives the bike added effective travel and damping. Run it also on my yeti sb130.
For this bike’s intended and potential use, the stock RS suspension was not capable. The Fox upgrade has made this bike a beast. In the past three weeks I have had mine on three iconic black diamond trails in the Western USA:
Downieville Downhill: 28 miles w 3800’ in California

I tested a L and and XL.
I’m 5’10.75” with a 32” inseam.
Own a 2019 Levo L and a Yeti SB130 L for reference. I have owned a M eOneSixty 900e.
Tested the XL first and the bike felt spot on pedaling and straight and steep. When it got narrow and twisty the bike was cumbersome and the front...
IMO, this is even more a reason to go with something like a YT Decoy. All Shimano eMTB parts are readily accessible through many outlets. My mechanic has done full Shimano rebuilds, including motor swaps. If you are out of warranty, a new Shimano motor can be had for about $850 USD. Not cheap...
I have had so many bad experiences with LBS over the years: Inexperienced service people, hard sell tactics, etc. I it is hard count an LBS source as a positive.
A different approach: i have developed a relationship with an independent local mechanic. He is an expert and more than reasonable...
Tested a Decoy XL and L at the Mill today.
Background: I own a ‘19 Levo and previously a eOneSixty 900e (and before that a Scott eGenius Tuned, and a Haibike FatSix).
Regarding the motor: I think I prefer the Shimano motor to the Brose. The Shimano’s support is more energetic, I feel more...
Problem Solvers shim and the new OneUp Dropper 2.0 at 180mm is working awesomely.
OneUp has the shortest stack, so you can get max drop. I’m a 32” inseam and got the 180mm of drop on a Large Levo ‘19, no problem. The 180 can be adjusted to 170 or 160 easily, too if you need a shorter drop. I...
For me, 150mm drop is just not enough to get the saddle out of the way on rowdy bits.
Can anyone confirm:
Insertion length for Decoy L?
Anyone converted to a >=175mm dropper?
I’d like to go with at minimum a 175 Transfer, but better would be a 180-200 Revive or OneUp.
For reference, I run...
Cranks are fine and tight. Seems to be coming from within motor housing on the crank axis. Intermittent but frequent. Every minute or so. Does the spline need to be tightened? Anyone have an educated guess?
