Do all of the magnetic pedals require what’s basically a modified SPD shoe?
My issue is that I pedal with the back half of my foot; I can’t pedal on the balls of my feet.
If I were to use something like this, I’d really need to be able to insert a metal plate in the shoe to accommodate for...
Been getting some rain the past few days. All the things that want to stab you here in the desert are in drag—hoping to lull you into underestimating their spiny bits.
Wait.
What? There’s gotta be a better way to phrase that.
My partner is ITSEC at NASA here in New Mexico, and I formerly worked there.
Such tech, while monitored enough to perhaps keep most haXors out, is still not secure from Amazon itself and Bezos’ fuckery.
Ooof. No Alexa for me, thanks. I’m not fond of the ITSEC issues endemic to “smart” home devices. And, yes, I keep Siri shut off on my Apple products, as well.
Do Instagram links work in here? Let’s try it.

SNAKE WARNING If they freak you out, keep on scrolling.
Saw my first 2 snakes of the year today. A nice bullsnake and a tiny Western Diamondback rattlesnake.
Another gorgeous southern New Mexico day. It’s difficult to tell that, in the last pic, there’s a ridiculous drop down and then back up. These arroyos make desert riding particularly challenging. You never know if it’s going to be easy or full of deep sand at the bottom (not to mention how far...
From last night’s group ride along the irrigation ditches and the Rio Grande. Started the evening off with probably 70 riders? By the end of the 20 miles, I think there were 25 of us or so.
Birds are mind-boggling creatures. The snarls and spikes they manage to nest in? Crazy! And then to be able to FLY in and out? Tiny badass dinosaurs.
As for thorns, in the Midwest and Eastern states (and I’m sure Canada, too)
, we have this tree called Black Locust. It puts out some seriously...
Oh, it sucks just as much as you might imagine. Even getting scraped by one as you ride a trail can cause damage. My G-form knee pad got a hella rip in the fabric from one of these things (not to mention the hella rip it left in me!). Fortunately, the partner had stretchy fabric that made for a...
From that spot, I’d say it’s about 16 miles (26 km) over to the Doña Anas. It’s actually a really nice ride made up of a little pavement, a lot of dirt and 2-track roads, and some singletrack. It’s my favorite close-to-home bikepacking overnighter.
