You only need the bracket if you want to keep the steeper geometry and want a shorter chainstay. I left it in the same position as the 29" wheel, the high position. I've gone with a 27.5 2.8 big betty on a H1900 DT Swiss wheel with 35id. The bike is way more playful that way and easy to whip around corners.

Just keep the axle in the same spot. The longer chainstay is great for climbing and the slacker geo is great for descending.
