I definitely torque certain things to spec. I have several different tools that I use….i have park t-handles with certain torque settings and more than one actual torque wrenches. I love my tools.
Don’t you guys occasionally check all the bolts on your bikes? I probably go over my bikes every 2-3 rides and make sure particular bolts are snug. It takes less than 5 minutes. I check my axles, seat clamp, brakes, derailleur, suspension pivots, and sometimes the stem. All you need is 3 hex...
We do have a problem with kids ripping their Surrons and dirtbikes on our city streets. I’m definitely in favor of some rules for e-bikes on public roads but they need to be specific by ebike class. Our class 1 EMTBs should not have any limitations. Even unrestricted it’s hard to pedal an emtb...
Although I am one of those people who would just spend my way to satisfaction, I think you can get that stock suspension to work just fine. You’ll just need to fine tune with tokens/volume spacers and testing. The Cascade link does a lot for the bike. It’s cheaper than a new shock and I feel...
I would like to try the new Heckler SL but my gen2 Levo SL weighs 39lbs with a fox 36 and Kryptotal tires (no inserts). I’m 51 and 200 lbs. I ride my FF Levo 90% of the time. I don’t ride for the grind, I ride for the fun. That’s why I’ve abandoned my amish (regular pedal/acoustic) bike...
Poster above, I also have 2 gen3 levos and the new SLs suspension is totally different. Saying the new SL is like a Levo is just plain 1000% wrong. 2 things make them very different. 1) the stays an the new SL are the shortest that I’ve ever seen on an ebike 2) Specialized built more progression...
I have a both bikes. I’ll just start by saying they both have their place but they are polar opposites.
I’ll just start with the new Levo SL, its probably the best handling bike I’ve ever been on once you make it a 29er. It’s a great all around bike. Great geo….great suspension. Not the...
That’s weird that you’re having issues with the extender coming out or the cable coming unplugged. I’ve never had mine fly out and I don’t even bother with the rubber band. If it’s in correctly the indentations on the extender body should lock it into the cage. I’ve definitely never had the...
As much as I love talking bike tech I think the new sizing is just better practically speaking. My only complaint is that bike is short and I think the rear stay is too short in the 27.5 setting. In S3 I found the bike a little twitchy with the 27.5. When I ordered the bike none of the geo info...
Yeah, of course. I just wanted to try the SL out on the harder stuff. I had a Levo with me too. Normally I’m riding trails by my house. I only go to the bike park every couple of weeks. My home trails are rocky and hilly but there’s nothing requiring an enduro bike. At least 2 days a week I’m...
I don’t know how to make the comparison to the EXe. I had an EXe 9.8. It wasn’t a bad bike. Trek did a great job with both the design and execution of it. I think that the main reason for selling mine was a lack of a range extender as well.
The EXe beats the SL2 in 3 categories: it’s quieter...
It’s interesting to read everybody’s different opinions about how the SL should be used. I have 3 other e-bikes, all full fats. Each one has a purpose. My SL is being purpose built to be light. I even put 2 piston XT brakes on it. Since the only purchasing option that I had was a comp I had to...
I’m going to disagree with some of you. I can definitely feel the difference between 75/75 & 100/100….even 100/80 & 100/100. Set at 100/100 you can see how fast the battery drains. No possible way that 75/75, or thereabouts is going to use the same as 100/100. It won’t even be close. I’ve also...
I’m converting mine to a 29er. I’m not sure why but I’ve committed myself to building the bike like I would have wanted to buy it so I’m in the middle of upgrading. So far, Float X, Factory, 36, GX AXS, Roval Control Carbon wheels, Fox Factory dropper, kryptotal tires, XT brakes, and carbon...
I know that people have mixed opinions about delimiting their bikes but I do like to use either a planet3 or Speedi. Honestly, I like the Speedi better. The effect of the delimiter is very subtle and you don’t actually use it nearly as much as you’d think that you would but it does give you a...
Roval Control Carbons. The only downside is that they have a 29mm ID. The factory wheels have a 30mm ID. I would have rather have Roval Traverse SLs but those are getting up there in price.
I went down at the bike park on the SL on Friday. As soon as I get the 30 stitches out of my arm I’m going to start the process of converting mine to a 29er just to try it out. In fact, I’m going to try to knock a couple more pounds off the bike. I think the wheels themselves are good for a a...
