There is a known problem with water getting into both the display an the handle bar switch. The display will show condensation. Water in the switch can result in the bike going into walk mode as you describe. This is what happened to my 2018 SX and a few of my friends. All switches were replaced...

TIP, if you do order one it's best if you also get the optional longer wheel straps as they fit plus tyres better. Get four straps. I have this rack and two mates have it as well. They carry levos, I'm on a Giant.
