It wouldn't make any sense for a magnet falling off to be treated as a "derestricting" event. The bike no longer knows the speed, so it either shouldn't provide any power or at most it should provide a few watts to limp around with. If it lets you beat the speed limit because the magnet isn't...
I'm guessing the factory protector is maybe too thin to count on for more than shipping from the factory?
For what it's worth protectionfilms24 will make custom tempered glass protectors at a size you specify. Looks like the glass on the TCU has rounded sides, so it would be a tradeoff: good...
I used to use the Minoura portable truing stand before thru axles were common and found it to be good enough at the time. It was affordable and easy to store and transport. These days you'd probably need a thru/QR adapter, make sure it has clearance for at least a 148mm hub at the support arms...
Mixed feelings about ShockWiz. It's handy to see actual dynamic sag and the amount of travel used, but I wasn't convinced the damping recommendations are on point.
I get that this is just one more buttr for your list, but this particular one worked well for me when I'd go on vacation and would go for long rides every day. Maybe it can help.
I make no claim that I'm at or ever will be at your level, but we're talking about people learning to track stand for the first time, who definitely aren't going to be as smooth as either of us. You want to state that you can be just as good with FS as a rigid or road bike given enough time and...
You state that as fact and your experience is what it is, but it doesn't jive with my lived experience. If I'm being very smooth with my inputs, then in that case the difference is negligible as long as I can keep things slow and smooth. But when I'm not so smooth and need to make quick...
Agree with the trackstand advice. I'd just add that trackstanding is a lot more challenging the more suspension movement you have in the mix, so anything you can do to reduce that motion will help you brain lock on to how trackstand balancing works.
Similar but different. Luftkappe is a straight trade between positive and negative chambers. Secus adds a large negative chamber, but it has an internal piston that reduces the effective negative chamber as you go deeper into the travel.
Lived this last Memorial Day weekend at Mammoth, especially because only the bottom-most part of the mountain is typically open. I'd guess I was getting in 2/3rds as many downhill runs, but the uphill trails were nice enough and it was fun staying on the bike instead of hassling with shuttle...
I'd love to see a periodic blog from Bearing Man in the vein of Backblaze for hard drives. I figure the main issue is that his numbers will probably lag with warranty periods.
Considering that the "budget"-spec carbon Rise's are super hard to find, I wouldn't be surprised if they presale the lot of them before they show up on shop floors.
The KSL is so very tempting, but in the end I decided to put in an order for a Gen3 Levo frameset. Hopefully I'll be able to get the parts together and built up by March or sooner.
