I'm on the 9.7 as well and running the recommended psi for the fork and dropped the shock 14psi. Works out to 20% sag on the fork .. 28% (seated) on the shock... Feels pretty plush to me. No problems w blowing through the travel

I'm have the 9.7 with Float X and it feels great to me. Running 28% sag seated. Maybe you're too used to the coil on your other bike. To me it feels pretty plush for an air shock but it will never match a coil. Maybe you can try to let the air out and air it back up in 30psi increments making...
