    E-bike – £3500. Bit lost on choice!

I bought a Trek Rail 5, rode it up one mountain and down again and split the rear rim and broke one spoke. I've replaced the 700c wheels with 29" Industry Nine Hydra wheelset. The seat has an awful looking bontrager grandpa seat on it now but I can ride 110km on it without severe pain. I also...

Velotraum Finder video on YouTube by Nomad's Trails is well worth watching for anyone looking at touring/bikepacking.

    Long distance bikepacking

I ran smaller knobby tyres but they were noisy, didn't handle gravel well and tended to get punctures after allowing tube creep when tube pressure dropped. I replaced with Schwalbe Marathon Plus with armour inserts over tubes. I ride 20+ km every day of the week and have definitely found riding...

MEGABOBRA: Bosch Smart System Derestriction for Rim Magnet - DIY Project with Support

Definitely happier seeing a hall effect sensor detecting the wheel magnet than a reed switch! Can you tell me... How is the original sensor inside the motor detecting the B field... is there a ferrous slug protruding/flush with the alloy case picking up the flux?

    Bosch cx

I'm hearing you... I bought a (green) Bosch hammer drill in 1991/2 and only replaced brushes & bearings once. Bought a replacement in 2011 before I refurbished the original and it lasted just out of warranty. The old one is still going. A few people on here are interested in getting access to...

Is it definitely that the motor is stuffed or could it the electronic control?

MEGABOBRA: Bosch Smart System Derestriction for Rim Magnet - DIY Project with Support

With the hall effect conversation a few replies back.... May I ask, would you be referring to these components: A hall effect sensor (3 or 4 wire) If the device has a connection to ground as well as two other connections then that is classed as a three wire device and will usually output a logic...

    Rail (625Wh) Rail 9.7 (gen 2) vs Rail 7 (gen 3)

My reason is not what I would have thought. Reading those specs, I would normally choose the Alloy frame because I see it as easier to repair/modify. You haven't listed the overall weight spec which would be interesting. Not that overall weight is an issue, especially if you are a heavier human...

MEGABOBRA: Bosch Smart System Derestriction for Rim Magnet - DIY Project with Support

Or we kill the comms and just buy an off-the-shelf bms? CAN isn't required to charge Lithium batteries. CAN, in my experience, has always been about crippletronics. The rumour is the replacement for CANbus will be encrypted... Try to circumvent these over-the-top nanny state limitations then....

    Rail (750Wh) Rail geometry.

I test rode the Levo (carbon frame was all they stocked) and I thought it was a very light and responsive bike to ride. I tested the latest Trek Rail about an hour later and immediately purchased it. It was heavier, it's geometry was such that I didn't feel comfortable riding without my hands on...

Went through water today, wet f**king feet again, p*issed off :(

There's also GIYO toe covers (Ali Express) to stop puddle splash going in the tongue area.

MEGABOBRA: Bosch Smart System Derestriction for Rim Magnet - DIY Project with Support

I am fast coming to the conclusion that we need to throw the Bosch controller in the trash and design a new one that has none of the nonsense attached to it. No phoning home via app, no errors generated by gps-controller speed differential, no inbuilt speed limiting (or at least a user...

    Derestricting bosch smart system

Not oversimplifying, you are potentially making it more complex than needed. This depends on whether you have a hall effect pickup type sensor (3 or 4 wire device) or a variable reluctor coil pickup. I haven't had a look at my bike yet as I was waiting for warranty to run out before I start...

    Derestricting bosch smart system

I have the disc rotor type sensor. I would like to get the board with code running and Bosch cables to connect properly. I will fine tune this end and post final documentation for those like me with disc sensor if that's whats needed.

Would you buy a bike that can't be derestricted ?

With ebike speed limiting: Follow the money... Entrenched monopolies in the business world don't like new technologies that threaten to reduce their bottom line. This includes fuel taxes to which various governments have become addicted. Any disruptive technology that threatens to reduce car...

Maybe you could wire it into a few USB sockets for charging devices? Just a thought. How many days would it run your phone for? ;)

Would you buy a bike that can't be derestricted ?

Hi... also Australian. I have done 1100kms so far on my Rail 5 and all of it on the road as I have back problems that mean rear suspension and a forward leaning pedalling position is a must for me exercising. For quick trips of over 20 kilometres it would be handy to have motor assistance up to...
