Not quite correct, the Trek fuel exe and any other bike that uses the tq hpr 50motor can also be run on just the range extender, and the range extender is 160wh so can go on a plane
You mean these?

They're not really e bikes as most people on here would refer to them, they're more e motorbikes, or e mopeds, ie legally distinct (in most countries) from what most people refer to as ebikes.
The trek fuel exe can be used like this. remove the main battery and just use the range extender for an ultra light bike with 160wh battery.
Its a pretty niche use case though, I cant see many people using it like this.
Although I have ridden mine like this - usually when I go on trips by...
If you bought one it would come with a new 2 year warranty, but if you get given one under warranty for free, then it doesn't need to come with a warranty
I was told any replacement motors do not come with a new 2 year warranty.
Having said that my second motor was replaced for free outside of that original 2 year warranty period, so I guess they are open to a bit of goodwill.
Re replacement motor prices, if you register as a dealer on the tq website, you can log into the dealer area and download the price list for replacement parts, I don't have it in front of me, so can't be exact, but a new motor is something like 850 euros.
I think the Trek warranty is transferable to the second owner, but I think the frame warranty reduces to 3 or maybe 2 years, compared to lifetime for the original owner - check the Trek warranty terms. The motor/battery only ever had a 2 year warranty - in the UK anyway.
My first motor failed at the tail end of its first winter, the second motor survived two winters (and two 'summers' if you can call them that).
I'm hoping they've made some running changes to make them more resilient. Maybe my third motor will make it through 3 winters?
Tricky to answer as everyone has a different priority for what they want from their ebike, but I think for the money you can now buy them for theyre still a decent choice if you want a low power lighter bike.
If you focus purely on objective numbers (power, torque, battery capacity etc) then the...
For me, both failures have been caused by moisture, the first motor failed because the sprag clutch seized up. In the second motor one of the bearings ended up running dry and rough then the torque sensor started throwing an errror.
I ride in the UK though, and the winters are wet and muddy, if...
Yeah, I'm on my 3rd motor too.
First motor only lasted 400 miles, second motor lasted about 1600 miles. Maybe the 3rd will go for 3000!?
Id be interested if anyone knows whether they have made running changes to the motor to improve reliability, anyone know anything?
