Will this spider for the Full E+ fit the Fathom E+3?

Hi everybody,

Does anybody know if this spider for the Full E+ would fit the Fathom E+3? I'm thinking the internal gearing should be the same dimensions since they're both a Giant brand.
I'm considering doing this since using a spider would be easier to change the chainring and experiment with various brands/materials. I'm just in doubt about the depth of the part. I'm worried it could protrude too much out.

Not all giant ( yamaha) motors use the same crank attachments , so this is one of those cases where you need to remove yours and check.( or ask the shop?)

As an example , the 2017 full e had the old square axle whilst the 2018 full e pro the yamaha pwx motor so has modern splined axles that fit the spider you show.

Your bike has the "sport" motor , sorry but I don't know what axle that uses.

It’s all a bit confusing, but if you do have a SyncDrive Sport it looks like you need a special tool to remove the sprocket. See page 36 in the service manual...

A friend of mine was in a similar situation to you with his Stance E (also SD Sport) recently and struggled to find any alternative options to the OEM Praxis part.

Yes, I already sent an email to the seller if they can compare the parts. I also read the service manual and noticed I need the tool, but this is not a problem, I could manage.

I comapred the two parts in solidworks and both have 28 internal small teeths and that part seems ok, I'm just worri of how much it would protrude out and the chain be out of alignment or interfere with the crank.

Just to update. I bought the Full E+ spider and put on a Shimano 36T chainring. I drove a little bit in front of the house in and it seems to work perfectly well.

There's a small difference in height between the two. The spider with the Shimano chainring is actually 3mm closer towards the frame compared to the stock that is more to the outside. But it seems it doesn't affect anything. It could just be the Shimano chainring is made like that. I need to buy some other brands to see if they align exactly as the stock one.

Sure. I went for a longer ride today and I can confirm it works perfectly well. I took many pics so you can get a representative picture on how it looks when it's mounted.

I think in the future, next year or so, I'll mount a 40t(+) chainring and possibly a different cassette that goes from 11 to 40t. I still need to think about that, and probably a longer chain will be needed for this hack

Nice. Definitely something for me to consider on my Fathom.

Are you going to run a narrow-wide ring? I'd worry about the torque from the motor causing chain slip. It might also help your chainline issues you mentioned.

I'm running an 11-40T Zitto cassette on mine and it's fine. I had to adjust he B-screw a bit to clear the top pulley, but the chain length looks ok.

Yeah, but I wouldn't recommend it since it's not a narrow-wide chainring and the chain falls off easily. At the time it was the only one I could find in the local shop. I later bought the narrow-wides online.
