Hello everyone!

in the country where I live I find very difficult to get bikes with discounts (maybe I don't know how to search but that's what I am experiencing so far). I am then thinking about buying an e-mtb in a different country and have it shipped.
I am ok with mounting, no worries for that, but I am wondedering how does it work in such cases if I need to to shops for assistance. Will the warranty work also in a country that is different than the one where I bought? Everything will be within Europe countries.

Do you have experience with some specific vendor that works better than others?

Thanks

In EU is the same warranty, it's in EU regulation. I think Shimano and Specialized work that way, if we think about motors. Bosch also, I think. Also Canyon has good reputation in warranty.

Well, EU warranty is a nice theory. But are the local shops willing to carry out any warranty work on bikes not purchased from them? Better call the local shops before buying, instead of just dropping in with a broken bike. And think what your options are if local shops are unwilling to co-operate.

Short sighted for a bike shop to turn down work due to the bike not being purchased through them if you ask me. Losing a potential future customer. I think most people would look to spend a bit more with the shop should they help them out.

My LBS generally only work on bikes they have sold.

For 12 years I had to take my old non-E bike 12 miles to another town to the shop I bought it from for repairs/ services.

My LBS has such a good reputation and sells so many bikes that they do this because they always have plenty of work and want to reserve their service to support people who bought their bikes.

It would not be very good if you bought a bike from them and then they told you they were too busy to help you when you needed repairs /services.

The shop's loyalty to its customers is repaid with their loyalty to the shop!

I definitely understand the decision of your LBS for "standard" maintenance but this would be at least unfair in case of a need of warranty claim.

Now, if there is an alternative and not so far shop then fair enough, but if there is not I think they cannot refuse to take a bike for repair. If such a thing happens to me I definitely write to the brand support main website to complain.

I had the chance to buy a Specialized Levo in Italy at a really decent price but had the same concerns so mailed Specialized in the UK asking the same question.

They told me that the bike comes with a worldwide warranty but I would have to pay labour if any repair was carried out in a dealer other than the one I bought from - the exception to this was a Specialized owned retailer who would cover labour charges also.

Seems pretty reasonable to me..
