Checked and the derailleur was out of alignment again - I have changed forks/bars/wheels been off .. so opportunity for it to move I guess ... still seems to move around a lot compared to anything else !

It's unorthodox, but have re-routed the gear cable on the inside of the seat stay. It's a straighter run for the Microshift and hopefully just far enough out of the way not to get mauled by chain slap. It sits against the existing frame protection pad on that side.

With the cable rerouted and yesterday's index, shifting is super smooth...

But still random jumps on the 11t.

The original shift issues through the range were the adjustments screws moving/cable settling.

I think the v1 Microsoft has a bit of a design flaw, probably addressed with the v2.

In the 11t there's hardly any spring tension left so the derailleur can move around quite easily from left to right as the tension in the chain varies.

Winding thr limit screw in hugely reduces the lateral play as it moves it back into the zone where the spring is still effective, but....... It won't go into gear when changing again.

Repeatedly adjusted to get the minimum limit to still engage the gear, but then it slips - randomly as you vary pedal pressure.

Varying the tension on the bottom pulley and the mech moves laterally :

Shortening the chain would move the mech back within its optimum limit, but there's not the scope to do that.

Had a much more "testing" ride on the Fox 38 setup this morning.

1100m, 30k, 70% battery used. Left it in T as I was lazy.

Basically - the fork is perfect for me ! It just does everything faultlessly ! The rear shock I also can't fault. It's better again with the Fox 38 (The Lyric is vastly overdue for a service). Sped up re-bound 1 click part way through (which had made it a tiny bit harsh before, but felt great today).

The bike's a bit of an enigma. It's slacker than the Kenevo and the Jam and feels more stable than both. But somehow, it also feels more agile !

I really like the Kenevo with the 27.5/27.5 and really really liked this with the Kenevo front end on it. I was concerned with lifting the front and going back to 29 that it would feel sluggish and ungainly - but it doesn't. The Focus (29/29) feels bigger and slower than the Kenevo, you can't flick it around the same as the Kenevo, this still feels like you can just think it and it happens. It's more surgical than the other two and more composed - at all times. Over jumps, off drops, everything just feels easier and like you have so much more control. Even when it's sliding, you just think about where you want it to go and it goes there.

Weight wise, with the 38, 29 front, 2.3 disks it will have crawled back up. Not sure what it is, 25.8 ish with all my crap and tools on. Really didn't feel heavy at all today (except when lifting over fallen trees) so I'm not worrying about weight with it anymore.

Bad luck today :(
Wanted to try out the new shock but the chain broke on the half way up the hill. The way down, I tried a little bit riding chainless.
Need more rides to correctly set up the shock.
Unfortunate. I was looking forwards to hear how it rode. It looks good !! 🥳

You're clutch is "off"- though you might have done that to try and sort out the chain ! :) The chain guide isn't level either, but again, you might have loosened it to get the chain off.

You can see your seat stay is starting to rub from the shifter cable, it's a straighter run with the Microshift if you run it on the inside of the chainstay and it sits against the existing rubber protector.

Did it break with a "ghost" shift ? I think the KMC chain might be junk. Even with ghost shifts, my SRAM 11 speed hasn't broken, yet the 10 Speed KMC broke on one of the first rides.

😭

I cannot remember If I had a ghost shift before the chain broke or not.
The shifter cable definitley needs to be changed or I will see some aluminium soon.
10 or 11 Speed SRAM or Shimano chains will work both?

10,11 or 12 will all work. The spacings are all the same, just the plates are thinner. I think the 11s works better than the 10s as there's a tiny bit more space - but that could just be subjective.

Looks like CRC are dropping the price significantly too!!
Very very tempted by the VRX, instead of paying £900+ for the Whyte e160S MX I was looking at.
Thoughts??
Interesting that the Vitus US site is not showing the same prices as CRC. It's all the same company, which apparently is not doing that well lately.

Published October 9, 2023 Bicycle Retailer and Industry News

Signa Sports United says it will restructure — including terminating some non-performing assets — due to the industry's "subdued demand and market overstock." SSU also plans to delist from the New York Stock Exchange, where its stock price has plummeted in recent months.
SSU owns the bike brands Nukeproof and Vitus, and the e-commerce retailer CRC/Wiggle. It also operates e-commerce sites in the tennis, outdoor sports and team sports markets. In a recent statement, the company did not say which of its business units would be terminated or "right-sized," although it said its bike business, specifically, has lagged company expectations.

Also keen to get my hands on one of these.

Do we have any concerns with the Signa Sports news? and how could this effect warranty's etc? or is this to far in the realm of ifs buts and maybes?

After a bit of looking around would anyone suggest either of these as good alternatives (that are actually in stock) for a similar price?

Starting to think a good marketing ploy from Vitus to build demand and then not put any back in stock until the 30% offer ends....

....neither of which are close in terms of spec and both have Shimano motors....!

I've been looking myself.

If CRC/Wiggle remove the -30% off, the VRX will be in line with other sale bikes like Whyte E160, Mondraker Crafty R, Trek Rail 7..... I know which I'd be choosing for that kind of money!

Sounds very much like it knowing the financial troubles Vitus' parent company has been having. How will this impact the bike manufacturer or Vitus customers in the long run remains to be seen.

If on the market to purchase a new bike, I would probably look into other brand alternatives at this time. ;)

It would raise potential warranty concerns with me... and with Nukeproof.

I am more optimistic :)
Even if Signal Sports United goes bankrupt, there is a good chance that Vitus and Nukeproof will be sold to someone else and there will be someone for warranty to contact.
If they agree to take on the warranty responsibility! The accountant doing the liquidation will not give two fucks for ex-customers, his/her remit is solely to maximise revenue for the creditors, who also will not give two fucks for the ex-customers. The buyer will offer less money for the business if they also have to take on the unknown loss of warranty claims.

Quick mod with a "lightweight" build .. or slightly lighter ..

180 Zeb's (actually measure 185) to try as an alternative to the 170 Fox 38's.

Loam lab grips/bar ends/granite stash tools replaced by the original super light Vitus grips. No mud guard. Loam labs 35mm stem. One up carbon E-bars. Saves 800g with the 50g saved on the Zeb over the 38. Don't think it will make any difference to how it feels when riding.

Have also been playing with the DP C245 V3 Display and "Go+" ... this had the unfortunate side effect of making the motor inoperable except for walk mode. Fortunately, I've worked out how to fix it. Following on from strong recommendations - I'd strongly recommend NOT bothering with the V3 Display (it has the bafang not vitus firmware for starters) and avoid the GO+ app for now.. "Go" works fine for most things, you just can't change the power configuration, though with GO+ you're still quite limited on what you can change (once it's screwed all your original settings up).
