Used bikes

These old bolts need to be replaced. You basically just need new M6 bolts in the correct length with their ajustement washers, also known as cup & cone washers. Don't forget the latter. They go under the bold head, and not between the frame and the post mount or the postmount and the caliper. Should look like this (example):

Bikes had a good service, looks much better. Headstock , wheel bearings and fork service yet to do, by local bike man, then it’s ready to go!!

He’s done a great job👍

Hi all
Thought I would share problem I found today.
If you see above posts, the PO fitted saint brakes and they looked odd, with loads of washers.

So the brakes were making a horrible squeaking noise so I decided to change pads and rotors. Once new parts were fitted the front wheel wouldn’t turn and the rear caught slightly, and thought it was because the parts were new at first, but I noticed the disk was catching the actual caliper, so I had the use a washer as a spacer , this solved the problem and the wheels turn fine.

Are they shimano 203mm disks when the mounts are for 200mm perhaps?

Bike looks great BTW. It's cleaned up really well - almost looks new!

Yes they are 203’s, that’s what they had in at evans or it was 180’s , the tech said they use the ones given🤷‍♂️.
The washer seems to work ok though.

Hi all
So I’ve had about 20-30 miles on the bike since i changed the brakes, bedded them in , and they have been sound, no squeaky brakes. Anyway got on it this morning and the squeak is back loud as hell 😂🤷‍♂️, out of the blue, not been anywhere near it with oil or cleaner!

Front brake this , the rear is fine!, I’m thinking new piston kit maybe?

Any ideas??

Do new pads on mtb need paste on the back like we use on cars ?, in sure brembo use a paste for disk brakes, it might be a cheap fix!

Copper slip grease and anti-squeal shims on car brakes. Personally I'd be very nervous of putting any grease on my MTB pads because of the heat potentially melting it under hard braking and getting it on the disk just when you don't need it . .

I’ll just use this old thread, the brakes on the bike are really loud, front and back, , and it doesn’t stop to well, it’s only done maybe 80 miles since the brakes were done, new disks and pads, should I try and do a piston kit service to solve this problem , or am I just better changing pads again??
Is there something else I’m missing??

I'd just clean the disks with solvent, take pads out and clean them then lightly sand to remove any glazing. Also check that the pistons move freely.

when you say the brakes have just been done.........do you mean they have just been bled and had new pads fitted? If so what you describe sounds to me like the pads were never bedded in properly. You can rectify that with the advice in the post above...............but having done that I suggest you then bed the pads in.

Hi yes the brakes were , serviced, fluid changed , new pads disks. I bedded them in , and they were ok for a while, like a say I’ve not used the bike much maybe 70-80 miles tops, over tow paths, so nothing hard, I’ll give them a clean , and look at the pistons.

So I took the pads out and cleaned disks and pads with isopropyl, then sandpaper.They were black with carbon
I then put it back together the tried them again, just a little ride down the street, first few times it was ok , but when applied a bit harder they started to squeak again, so I brought it back and back off with the pads , black crap on again, so I just cleaned the whole lot calipers etc…., then did disks again with isopropyl. One other thing to check. Take a look at your rotors and see if they are marked "resin pads only". Make sure if so that the pads used are indeed resin rather than sintered.

So checked the disks, and there is nothing wrote on them regarding pads, so am I right in saying any will do?
BL 820 B is the saints pads needed, which ones are preferred to go on?, resin or sintered?

your existing pads suggest your brakes are deore XT so the pads are D02S for metallic( sintered) or Do3S for resin. Metallic are best for harder riding, resin is quieter and easier to bed in but best for less extreme riding. ( BL M820 B is a brake lever)
