Tyres and Pedals for tarmac and easy trails

Hi, I plan to purchase an EMTB soon and I have a question about tyres and pedals/shoes.

I plan to ride to the mountains nearby through the road/tarmac and then descend through the trails (not planning to race down them), so I am wondering which tyre would be more suited to conserve battery and improve rolling resistance (will be using high PSI and then let air out) - I have no experience with EMTB tyres but I can see that Continental Raceking is a fast rolling one, is it suited for this style of riding?

Also, what kind of pedals and shoes should I get for this kind of riding? I want to be able to lock in while ascending and have a stiff shoe since I am coming from Road cycling with carbon shoes.

Thanks!

I think the Johnny Watts might be what you're looking for! I actually like the look of it. Many on the forum don't like it (but haven't tried it). My commuters have always been dual purpose used for exploring as well, so I'm used to this sort of tyre. There doesn't seem to be much around in dual purpose type tyres in modern wheel sizes. I'd still go 2.6 with these so that you can ride down stairs and stuff.

If the trails you're riding are full on (think enduro / black) then maybe the vittoria mazza. They are an aggressive tyre with harder compound than the maxxis equivalent. One member here supposedly gets 3.5k out of them mostly on road. They will suck the battery though.

You could set the suspension up for the trails; while on the road flip the pedal bob switch on your shock and for the fork add a few clicks of compression damping if you have it. That should work nicely.

Forgot to mention that I am looking into Tubeless tires only, as I can see the Schwalbe's are not?
What tire width should I be looking at for mostly tarmac and easy descends on the trails?

I"m using Race Face Chester's at the moment, they're quite scraped up so looking to replace them, probably with Burgtek MK4's. They are cheap so even if they don't last as long as the Chesters, it's no great loss.

SHMBO bought me a pair of Bontrager Flatline shoes when I got the bike as a surprise and I thought they might not be any good, but they have been perfect for my needs. I might replace them soon as the Crank Brothers Stamps, Spesh 2FO Roost and Five Ten Trailcross are all calling me.

There are so many pedals and shoes out there, it's overwhelming and confusing, but it's difficult to go wrong if you do some research and stick yo a reputable brand.

Given your requirements, I would consider the Conti Race King, or maybe a Maxxis Rekon (fitted to many emtbs) I would choose to go narrower than the usual 2.8" to 2.6" that tend to get fitted to emtbs. They are not the absolute fastest rolling, but you will have some grip on the trails. You should find a lot of tyre choice at 2.4" (provided they are in stock of course, didn't use to be a problem).

Pretty much all mtb tyres can be run tubeless, just use a latex based sealant.

I recently switched to pirelli scorpion. After 2 rides i like them alot. They run fast, are pretty silent on tarmac and are tubeless! Front has plenty of grip for my usage

I run the M Trail MTB Banden | Pirelli Velo on the front

and a R Trail MTB Banden | Pirelli Velo on the rear.
