Just got my Bosch motor on my 2020 Trek Rail 5 updated to the latest version and I think something might be wrong.

My DU version shows as being 1.1.5.0 which is the most up to date version for the MY20 Performance Line CX motors.

I’m not sure what version I had before but the modes I had before were:
Eco
Tour
Emtb
Turbo

After this update, my display still shows the same modes. I don’t see a Tour+ mode which is part of the newest update. In addition the modes feel weaker than they once were.

Eco and Tour feel almost the same. I barely feel a difference between the two, and the assist in those 2 modes feels weaker than they before the update.Emtb also now feels less aggressive than it did before and Turbo feels weaker now as well.

This is based off of quick jaunts up and down the street and I suppose I need to ride on the trails to really know. But I’d like to what what everyone’s experiences were like after the update.

Does your display show the new Tour+ mode? Does the bike feel better or worse than when you did the update?

Display does not show Tour+

You need to go back to the LBS and make sure they have all the correct options selected and reapply the firmware. One to look out for is crank length, if the inadvertently set it to longer than 165mm that could affect the power as the torque you are inputting when peddling will be calculated incorrectly.

TOUR+ (TOUR in the display will feel the same as ECO until you increase your effort and cadence)
Percent Assist:
TURBO: 340%
eMTB: 140-340
eMTB Lite: 140-250
TOUR: 140
TOUR+: 60-340
ECO: 60
Maximum Torque:
TURBO: 85Nm
eMTB: 85
eMTB Lite: ~65
TOUR: 50
TOUR+: 85
ECO: 40
(When upgrading, choose between eMTB Lite and TOUR+, I don't know if TOUR is still available on Trek bikes.)

Happy to report my bike is working as it should after the update. I thought the bike offered less assist in all modes compared to how it used to feel before the update.

The Trek store allowed me to ride my Rail 5 and new Rail 5 they had in the store back to back to compare and they both felt exactly the same. They suggested I also wait until I get to ride the bike on the trails to confirm update is good.

I took the bike on a ride yesterday and it was exactly that. On parts of the trail where I needed the assist, it was there and just enough as needed for the situation. On flat parts of the trail it felt like a regular bike, I couldn't tell the assist was really there.

Any concerns I had about the new update and if something got messed up after applied are totally gone now.
