I’m optimistic that’ll the panic buying will all be over by Monday. I drove past four petrol stations yesterday afternoon and not one of them had queues . I didn’t stop to fill up as I already had half a tank. Guessing it’s affecting large towns & cities more than rural areas

Nope, the nutters are all out, I live in a small village and went to the closest town yesterday. Passed 3 petrol stations on minor roads, one had sold out and the other two had queues, blocking the road. Common sense has leapt out oh the top floor window, I really hope it gets sorted soon.

Picked the lad up from Uni in Gateshead yesterday afternoon and hadn't given a thought to what it might be like at the pumps ..but called in at Costco ( trade card / cheap premium fuel) to find every pump being used and a bit of a queue for each pump...topped up with diesel .
Took the little DS3 down to Hexham this morning ( which I use for work) to find a £30.00 limit and the price whacked up to £1.42 litre..now that is starting to take the piss..
I do hope your theory is correct G..

Well I suppose with toilet roll you can keep buying that until every room in your house, garage & garden shed is full of the stuff, whereas with petrol / diesel l you can only fill up once per vehicle, so when al the panic buyers have filled up they won’t return again for a while unless they’re all planning on long journeys this weekend

PS - word is the next worldwide shortage due soon is for rubber goods. Tyres predominantly. Nothing to do with Brexit or Covid, simply not enough rubber trees have been planted to cope with demand

I have a fly and a wasp in the ointment……..the fuel situation and the wasp, the Purion won’t switch on ?. I’ve taken the bike to the LBS they plugged it in to their diagnostics and the head unit is Donald ducked so it’s a warranty job don’t know if I’ll get the bike back in time. But never say never ??

My cube hardtail motor that my other half uses is goosed too and currently with the lbs waiting on a new motor to be delivered under warranty

We’re also still waiting for the Orbea to be delivered, so if neither come in time we’re going to have to hire a bike for the day next Saturday. Money down the drain!

Hope you get your Great White sorted ???

Both our local fuel stations have massive queues :oops: Good job i have 1/2 a tank

I drove on the A170 eastwards yesterday afternoon and all the fuel stations en route were fine. Apparently Sainsbury’s & Morrison’s here on the coast are absolute chaos today though. I’ll be needing fuel soon though as my hybrid car only has a small tank and a 30 mile electric range!

1/2 tank only lasts me a day in terms of work..approx 120 miles a day ..and that is using the little DS3 1.2 litre turbo 3 pot petrol ..

under normal working circumstances I’d usually fill up three or four times a week but I’ve only done personal mileage predominately in the last eighteen months! (WFH ?‍?)

My cube hardtail had the purion replaced for the exact same issue!
There's a video on youtube about it too. Power button fails. I think due to water getting in as my USB port died first, then the power button :(

Fly in the ointment ..take 2.
Only noticed this when cleaning the bike yesterday evening ..havent time to take it up to my LBS..so trying a bike shop near to where I'm working this morning ..and at the same time putting a replacement tyre on ( tubeless) ..hopefully they can replace with a quick turnaround ..

* Diesel update*
As of yesterday evening both garages in Hexham were out of diesel...
Edit : Yup..I know the cassette is worn ..but its still OK with the chain & it's not skipping ..so all OK in my world until it does ( approx 2k mileage on this & original chain ) ..I only replace cass & chain together ..

Bugger. My earlier fuel theory hasn’t quite gone to plan. It was fine round my way Sunday but come Monday morning the panicking started and stations ran out. Good luck getting your spoke fixed

I really could do with a new rear tyre , but making do until I get a chance to do my Shimano brake and drivetrain up/downgrade.
Should be a laugh if its wet.

I’ve just fitted a Nobbly Nic as my Minion SS has been slipping & sliding over damp roots & rocks in the last few weeks, plus the centre tread was worn down to around 1mn !

Don't...

The wife broke her wrist, really nastily in Dalby walking at new year.
We had to walk 6 miles back to the car, before going to Scarborough A&E
Ten months and two operations later it is still not right :mad:

I’m writing this whilst sat in York hospital waiting to have my wrist looked at (again!)

No doubt the doc will say ‘plenty of rest and no vigorous activities’

Right then, so far we have:

@Tubby G (that’s me) + 1
@The EMF
@The Hodge
@Tonybro
@Stu McSender
@Rahr85
@Kilham5
@emtbPhil
@E150rob
@drewbirks ?

@The Hodge , you were going to see if Jaco and @philmedomsley are interested, have you heard anything ?

BBC weather app currently has a very wet forecast for the next 10 days here in North Yorkshire, including today, but I’m looking out of my window and it’s just a bit grey with occasional light rain, so can’t really say how it’ll be on the day. If it does rain continuously, just expect a few puddles, but there isn’t any thick mud or slosh to roll through

There’s toilets at the visitors centre, then again a small block about 3 miles further up Dalby Forest Drive next to the lake, and then Dixons Hollow car park has a few portaloos. There’s plenty of trees in the forest though!

As you arrive you’ll be welcomed by a barrier blocking the entrance. Just sit and wait for what feels like a lifetime and it will eventually lift up and let you in. There’s number plate recognition so you don’t have to pay until you leave. You can either pay on your way out at the gates, or there’s a machine at the main visitors centre car park

I’ll be parked in Dixons Hollow / Adderstone Field car park in a bright orange X1. There’s actually three car parks in this area, I’ll be in the largest one and I’ll make sure I park where you can see my car from the main drive. It’s the first car park entrance on the left hand side as you drive up the main forest road and signage for Dixons Hollow bike park opposite are quite obvious (sometimes they open a gate at the bottom end of Adderstone Field which is around 200 yds before the entrance I’m talking about - ignore that one!)

If there’s anything else you need to know just ask

Er, what time are we meeting up? ?

Aiming for a 10am start but appreciate quite a few of you have long journeys so might just roll around the car park pulling wheelies whilst waiting

If the fuel situation doesn’t get any better by Friday then we could postpone and arrange for another time in the near future ?

Oh and don’t forget your flasks & pack-ups!

Cheers

I am nearer Dalby and it has been pissing down all day, and still is.

Most of the Red route copes really well, but there is that flat ancient wooded path that does get clarty.

The little garage in Helmsley on the A170 has had fuel all week and not seen any queues to date. However I have a 500 mile round trip to do tomorrow and Thursday, I should be okay but could conceivably be caught out. Fingers crossed ? I won’t.

See you Saturday

I’ve driven past that old petrol station in Helmsley a couple of times this weekend and noticed there were zero queues , but didn’t mention it on here in case half the emtb’ers in the uk decided to make the trip for fuel ?

If you’re doing your trip with a petrol engine you’ll be fine, if using diesel I’d cancel it!

Diesel
I can’t elaborate on a forum, but the trip is super important. Considered taking the Porker, but I also need four seats.

Best of luck then ??

probably not much help to you but the BP on the A168 southbound of Thirsk currently has diesel, maximum of £35 per vehicle
