Just thought I’d inform you of my experience buying my first Ebike. The bike I chose was an "Orange charger with Shimano EP8 motor".
I bought the bike from a local shop near me however the bike had been a special order by a customer that had changed there mind.
The shop’s Normal trade is commuter/shopper Ebikes.
Anyway after one week of ownership and approximately 30 miles the motor developed an error code.

“E01003 A Sensor abnormality was detected in the Drive unit - Remedy contact a place of purchase or a distributor for assistance"”

So I contacted the dealer I’d bought it from which is a one man band small shop and unfortunately he does not own the hardware lead to diagnose or resolve any problems with Shimano motors. So I contacted Orange directly who have been very good up to this point and are arranging to collect the bike on Monday to swap the motor.
Also I contacted other mountain bike shops that deal with Orange in this area and they weren’t interested as I hadn’t bought the bike from them.
My point being before you make a very expensive purchase it’s important to make sure the bike shop you’re buying from has the equipment to service the bike afterwards and the bike manufacture you choose has a track history of good customer service.

Atleast in my country, the seller is obligated by law to take care of any warranty issues for the products that they sell. If they can't do it themselves, they have to pay someone to do that for them and make sure it's done right and arrange everything.

The shop you bought it from is responsible mate..........their problem if they cannot do the work themselves.

I' m also in Dorset...where are you? There are Shimano Service Centres in Yeovil ( Evans Cycles) Bournemouth Cycleworks, and Totton ( Hargroves).

Given how new the bike is the most likely sensor issue is the speed sensor...especially as it is the magnet on a spoke type. If that magnet slips it will be too far from the sensor ( probably on the chainstay) and not work. Quick and easy to check before they cart your bike away!!

There are numerous threads about that error. My Heckler had it as well. Many folks have reported discovering that error on brand new bikes...myself included. The bike functioned perfectly and I would not have known it was there except I checked for error logs out of curiosity one day. A call to Shimano tech support confirmed it was nothing to worry about unless there were multiple occurrences or the bike exhibited problems. I have since deleted the error with my PCE02 and the new Shimano ETube Pro software. The error has not returned. It's cause isn't known that I'm aware of.
