Hey Rob...........I dont mind ads on the forum and appreciate it is how the money goes around but seeing big blobs of ear wax in technicolour or worse some rather chubby bloke with half his guts hanging out is surely a bit OTT!!

Nothing in my browsing history about waxy ears or kidney failure!! Maybe I have been hacked by a hypochondriac :ROFLMAO:
Sorry Mikerb - the ads are served from Google and I have no controls over which ads are served to you. They can be user targeted ads, so you’ll see more relevant things based on your demographic and interests!

If you want you can use an Adblock to remove them, or subscribe to remove them all for £5 for 12 months.

There’s the old marketing story about a sales executive complaining to Amazon about receiving ads for baby clothes/diapers when no one in his house was likely to be pregnant. 6 months later his very young teenage daughter gave birth. 😂

If you click on the little arrow symbol displayed on most adds you can investigate why you're seeing that add or simply block that individual add, but then something else more tasteless might appear ;) !

Google has a virtual monopoly on serving ads to websites, the other players aren't much better. They've all allowed ads to run that are click-baity, dishonest and exploitative. It's a race to the bottom of the bottom. I'd go as far to say Google ads are worse than Facebook, so there's an achievement no one wants.

I used to get annoyed at reputable sites (I even consider EMTB forums reputable!) serving Google ads, but sadly it's not like there's a better alterative.

The only alternative for sites like EMTB forums is to monetize in some other way. So maybe buy more merch, people?

My advice would be, if you're unhappy with the ads, find the well hidden ad feedback/report button, click through the obstructive menu system to explain why you object to the ad, and report it. Then get annoyed having done that a dozen times and seen no difference, and enable your ad blocker instead.

If this was the early naughties, every time we visited EMTB Forum we'd see a dozen pop-over ad windows for HARDCORE bike porn.

*click* *click* *click* before my boss sees me looking at pictures of BARELY LEGAL Chinese e bikes.

Rob doesn't have control over the ads, in fact they will be influenced by your browsing history...
There was a report in the British press a few years ago about a named MP who complained in the House of Commons about all the adverts for porn appearing on his laptop. He was unceremoniously informed about targeted adverts. It is reported that nothing more was heard from him on the subject. :ROFLMAO:

The search function via Google works in a similar way. I could always find the stuff I needed on my laptop on my work topics. Then I borrowed my wife's laptop................... I thought my Google-Fu had failed me!:unsure:
