Yes, because when shimano got into the fight against de-restriction, for EP8 there was only 4.0.2 firmware (actually an alpha version), and all subsequent firmware for all motors was with "derestriction" blocking via Bluetooth. For all older engines there was already quite working firmware. EP8 (non RS version) motor works on 4.0.2, but shimano made many fixes/improvements so there is no reason to use 4.0.2.

So, I have tested the STEPSUnlocker - thanks a lot to Vadll for the great program and sending a free valid licence key!
I had 4.6.1 firmware and modified to US version (32km/h) and increased power in Boost mode to 600W yesterday which worked perfectly on the first run.
This morning I had a long test ride with the bike and after approx. 30 minutes in hard terrain, my motor stopped working and the display switched off in middle of riding the bike.
The motor was quite hot at this time, so I waited some minutes.
I tried to restart and the display then only showed the initial "Shimano steps".
Also additional attempts failed...
After walking quite a long way home with the bike, I then tried to access with STEPSunlocker which failed.
Then I tried to connect with eTube from Shimano and this program detected a broken drive unit (DU) and also could not connect to the motor - all other components were shown (derailleur, display, switches)
So I went to my dealer and he asked me quite suddenly if I had made "any modification" on my bike. Because I know my dealer quite well I told him that I used the tuningtool and he told me that the motor maybe could get broken due to the higher power limit.
Unfortunately we could not reset the power limit back to the old, original value, because we could not connect any more to the system.
So my dealer tries to get a new motor from Shimano and the motor is aready dismounted from the bike and on the way to Shimano, but for sure this is not the thing we expected.
So I hope that I will get a repaiered or new motor (on warranty?) and hopefully not have to wait that long...
Hope this does not happen to somebody else...

Have you tested this modification on the 2022 model or 2023?

If you are worried about straining the battery probably shouldn't be playing around with STunlocker at all. Giant's new bike and some Rotwilds give this feature to you with bike, choice to run as much or as little power as you want to (up to full power emtb on an SL format). I suppose it's possible to damage the battery but every bike has it's own BMS so I personally am not that concerned about it.

Max torque 68nm/450W max in boost, pretty bang on similar to my Levo in trail setting.

So I set it to full 85nm x 500W in boost and holy moly it was absolutely awesome!!! I rode it in boost for about 10 miles and 2500feet of climbing without a hiccup! The climbs at my local mtn are very steep, basically DH trails down and back up and I'm 200lbs, it worked like a charm! Thanks for the help!

Noticed something after the change with St Unlocker. I used to be able to switch between profile 1 and 2 by clicking on the EN100 button, but now when I click on the EN100 button it just changes between eco, trail and boost instead of switching between profiles, is this normal after changing with St Unlocker?

This is not related to STUnlocker at all...

Never was able to switch profiles with EN100 since I've had the bike. The button only changes assist modes.

ep8 4.1.10 ( latest) flashed after gone deristrict with 4.0.2 ( 32km us market and 2000wheel size+5%spd) seems seems to work

ep8 can pull 100nm and 600w peak ? (settings can go to that)

my old trusty e8000 can pull 75nm 600w

I have just purchased a replacement motor and the only shop on island I live is a shimano dealer but does not do any work on there ebikes. They ordered me the motor but that is it, the rest is up to me. Trying to avoid buying the PC link.

I have noticed manual updated in Stunlocker app for**** ep801 : EP801/EP600 are not supported for the derestriction. This derestriction i Guess is for speed limitation correct?
Overall Torque/Power is not reported as a feature for ep801
Is this mean that app can not work to change power and torque limit of the ep801 RS motor? Has been this checked by anyone?

So you want to say, you have derestricted on older motor firmware and then upgrade the firmware to latest version and derestriction stayed as was before upgrade?

What is your GPS speed with this setup? Are you on 29 inch wheel?
