Specialised used warranty

So a friend of mine has just purchased a 2018 Levo second hand and my local specialized dealer has said that they can’t look after any warranty issue with it as the bike was not purchased from them, I work in the automotive industry and if you purchase a vehicle with a warranty you can take it to any dealer, but I guess it’s not the same in the bike industry.

Anyone else encountered this?

I have never owned a Speccy, so I have never experienced this. But I would have thought that this would concern Specialized HQ.

I can understand why the LBS would not want to pick up the costs & admin of the warranty work (even if compensated by Speccy), as they didn't get any of the profit from the original sale. But that is what being a dealer is all about surely? They will get sales where they never see the bike again. It should all average out. They have missed the chance to convert @Levored2019 to a new long term customer; instead they have switched him off! :(

Your right if your costs are covered by the manufacture then I don’t see the issue, it’s a strange one especially as the bike was purchased from tredz so from where my friend lives it’s a very long way to go, the warranty book also states the conditions of the warranty but it does not state that you can’t take it to any other dealer apart from the one you purchased it from

I may be wrong, but I believe warranties do not transfer. I traded in a 2 month old levo hardtail when I got my levo comp and my LBS said no warranty on used bikes was the reason they priced the hardtail the way they did for resale.

Your LBS either lied or is chronically behind the times. The Spesh warranty has been transferable since the middle of 2018.
I'd be going back and having a very strong word with them.
2018 Levo
Depends on the date of original purchase if the warranty is transferable or not.

My google-fu says it's applicable from 1st July 2018, according to this document.

My friend has the original receipt and this is From the specialized warranty page
  • If you're the second, or later, owner of a Specialized or Roval product, you are eligible for a two-year warranty from the date of the original retail purchase.

I do see the part you quoted online and it seems contradicting to the full warranty . Do you know the issue with the bike he was trying to warranty?

Thanks @Doomanic . The warranty didn’t decrease my trade in value but if they’re not aware than it definitely would help them resell the 2 month old levo.
I’m in the US so this warranty doesn’t mention the one you linked at all, or am I crazy.https://media.specialized.com/support/0000009968/0000009968_r3.pdf

The warranty document I linked to is the UK specific warranty and may differ from the US warranty.

Hi there. Looking at buying a second hand 2019 turbo levo. Does anybody here has any experience claiming a warranty motor repair as a second hand owner? Just trying to cover all bases before I pull the trigger in case something goes wrong after the purchase. Cheers.

Which is exactly my point. Used or new should make no difference.
Actually, on a 2018 Levo it did make a difference as warranty was only transferrable on bikes bought after 1st July 2018.

Yes .
You will need the original receipt for proof of purchase . Then depending on the LBS prolly a labour fee .
