Right. About to order a levo from Berkshire cycles only because they offer a great deal, but it's a 3hour journey.
If I have a warranty claim, do I need to take it back to Berkshire, or can I take it to Specialised concept store that I have 20 minutes away??

I just bought two from Chris and it was a 9 hour round trip both times :)

I hope nothing goes wrong with them.
That's my concern, with so many posts of problems, a 7hour round trip may seem not such a good idea.
I presume the buying experience was worth it so far ? I am also after two!!

Well for me after knowing how Chris sets the bikes up and the good deal he did me I always wanted to buy from him so fingers crossed :)

So the 700mwh batteries is an upgrade?

It is on that model the only ones that come with the 700wh as standard are the S-Works and the Expert models, all the others have the 504wh battery as standard, i just wanted us to have the bigger range :)

In the US, I bought my bike as a rental 200 miles away. When the battery failed, the LBS, 25 miles away, contacted Specialized and my battery was replaced under warranty. I think it depends on the LBS.

Have to say I think an alloy comp with the 700wh battery is the way forward

Your contract is with the supplying dealer so officially you'll need to go back to Berkshire if you have an issue. You may find that your local dealer is happy to do warranty work for you but they may charge for this (and are within their rights to do so under the law).

Some places will do you a deal when you purchase, but I don't know how competitive it is compared to buying a 700Wh outright and selling the 500Wh yourself.

I’m not sure they can charge you for warranty repairs as they run a network of authorised dealers. You are in effect purchasing access to the dealer network, much like buying a car.
From the warranty info from Specialized:

How do I start the Warranty process?
The first step is to visit your nearest Authorized Specialized Retailer. Your retailer will inspect the Product and contact Specialized for next steps. Contact information for your nearest Authorized Specialized Retailer can be found on www.specialized.com.

Also “You will not be charged for shipping the Product to Specialized or receiving any replacement product, or for labor charges incurred in processing the Warranty.”

Some shops charge, some don't. There are people on this very forum who have been charged for warranty work by Berkshire Cycles.

Unless Spesh are offering a service that exceeds your statutory rights then the only shop that has to do the work for free is the supplying dealer. My closest Spesh dealer charge £120 for warranty work on bikes not bought from them.

I wonder what the official line is from Specialized? As their terms and conditions of warranty says to go to your nearest dealer and labour is included.

I think it would be nice to have an official understanding prior to purchase. It’s not too much to ask. It will affect a lot of people’s decision.
