My shifter became sketchy on upshifts yesterday. Took it apart & could se the pawl that engages the sprocket had lost tension & so would only work on upshifts intermittently.

It appears to have a wire spring wrapped around its locating dowel that has broken & so is not repairable. I've already ordered a replacement so no biggy but just curious to see whether it's common or not.

In 3,000 miles had to replace mine twice (XTR which broke replaced by SLX which broke). Now have an XT shifter from Merlin Cycles when they had them on silly offer (bought "just in case" 😉). I use bar clamp.

Edit: £15.50/22.50

Yea, Merlin doing them for £15 right now which is handy I suppose.

Wait, there's more. I went back to it for another look & found the spring isn't actually broken, it has just pinged off the pawl. So with a pick, three hands & the patience of Job, I put it back & the shifter is repaired. Merlin are getting a return ha ha.
