My AXS Derailleur seems to have a lot of slop. Video below, pay attention to the pin in the center of the screen, you can see it move up and down. Is that normal?
I had an "incident" the other day, so I'm unsure if something is damaged or not. I.e. I don't know if it was already like this, or not. If you want to read, here's the story...
The other day I was climbing and the chain started making skipping sounds as if it was out of adjustment, like it was trying to go up a gear. Nothing "bad" had happened, I didn't hit anything, was just climbing a steep hill. But maybe a stick or rock or something I didn't notice was involved...
Soon after all hell broke loose as the chain slid down the cassette from the top (*I'll come back to this). I got off the bike to look. First thing I noticed was the AXS button on the derailleur showing red (which is supposed to mean you have ~25% battery, it was not flashing red). I flipped the bike over and tried shifting, it was a mess. It was acting like the cable had stretched, but of course there is no cable. I swapped batteries with my dropper and it seemed to work better, but it was still a little off. I had to tweak the micro adjust another click to keep it from clicking. After that it performed fine for the rest of the ride.
So first of all, is the AXS derailleur supposed to perform like shit because the battery is at 25%?
I took another look at it today and I can't say the derailleur looks "straight" by any means. I can't tell if the derailleur is twisted or what. The hanger looks straight. But the slop as you see in the video is disconcerting. I checked the b-tension and that was out a little as well, so I adjusted it. Seems to be shifting just fine in the stand.
* I reproduced something a little scary though. If you sort of manually disengage the chain and let it fall down the cassette, from the top, then try pedaling, the derailleur gets jammed into the cassette pretty badly. I had this happen more than once on my old drivetrain, though I never figured out exactly why. It seems to be exacerbated by the extra ebike torque. I suspect this is what might have happened the day of my ride, so I imagine the derailleur got crunched pretty good as I was pedaling trying to get the gear to engage on a steep section.
All in all kind of a strange event, I don't know if it's related to the battery being low, something on the trail, or what.
