The store in my village has a bike (FWIW Scott strike 930) in a medium, I’m about 180cm and if they had stock I’d most certainly look at the Large. Stock levels are of course dire locally and as an added incentive I get around 15% discount. On a test ride I found it fairly comfortable. I suppose it’s pretty easy to convince yourself to buy a wrong size given availability problems. It would be a reasonable size for my wife so if/when she decides she needs one I can most likely pass it on to her which seems a tick in the plus column.

Does anyone have any experience going for a smaller size? I have found a few ebikes I’ve rode feel quite large to me so I’m mildly inclined to be looking smaller anyway.

I always size down.
Smaller Emtbs are more manouverable and require less effort to manual and bunnyhop. the only real downside is they are slighty less stable at high speed and over rougher ground.

There's not really a "wrong" size. Size is simply down to preference
