Side Wall Slices from Rocks

Where I ride there are many loose and embedded rocks. I've suffered slices, especially side wall slices. Since getting a Maxxis Minion II, I've not had one, but recently, got a slice, though the tire still held air. I'm probably going to replace this one with just another Maxxis Minion II, but... any other suggestions? Any hope on someday there being a full moussé insert like the motorcycle riders have?

What casing type was the tyre you were using?

Maxxis do most of their tyres in either exo, exo+, double down and dh casings, in ascending order of toughness.

I find I need a double down on the rear tyre, but can get away with exo on the front.

If you get cuts in the doubledown casings reasonably frequently it might be worth trying a dh casing instead.
